The idea that AI is going to wipe out millions of jobs is a popular narrative ATM....
Sectors such as law, finance, and management are all billed to be heavily affected by AI going forwards, with bots taking over a lot of the work that humans currently do....
But the reality may be less harsh....
Even the people making these tools admit they can’t see all the long-term effects. So far, we aren’t seeing giant waves of layoffs directly tied to AI.
ompanies are adopting AI, some routines are getting faster, and a few tasks have vanished. But that whole idea of “mass job carnage” is mainly just conjecture at this point.
AI hasn’t bulldozed the job market, at least not yet.
But the hype is another thing...
Dominant narratives predict massive lay-offs, and AI markets have bought into this - look at the booms of recent years....
Reality bites....
Change rarely fits either extreme. Most likely, we’ll see something more gradual and uneven.
Jobs will shift, tasks will fade out, and new kinds of work will turn up. That’s how it’s always been with new tech.
So maybe the real question isn’t whether AI sparks “job carnage.” Instead, it’s about how, where, and how fast AI will reshape work.
