Weekly Running Update - Summited that damn mountain!
Well after three goes building up to it, I finally summited that damn local mountain this week, in an epic 14K run.
However I then opted for just the one other run this week, really feeling like I needed to rest up on the Saturday, when it was just horrible weather anyway, and I had a lot of chores to do too!
I track most of my runs with Garmin, which auto uploads to Strava.
Weekly running summary:
- Total kilometres this week: 19k (24)
- No. of runs: 2 (3)
Tuesday's Run - 14K summit at last run!
It was a grotty old day but I was in an OK mood for a run, so I donned the old Ron Hill jacket and beanie, and gloves and headed off - 7.2Ks uphill - it got pretty steep towards the top, the final K or so was the only bit I hadn't done, but that was pretty hard going.
I stopped for a brief photo at the top - which was a telecoms and weather station and what seemed to be maybe a little social area, closed:
It would have been nice to have had something a little bit more welcoming at the top, but there you go, that's what was up there and there's not a lot I can do to change it!
Then I trotted back down again, pretty pleased with myself, if a little achy!
Thursday's Run: 5K standard hill run
I went to view some some land this morning (I've subsequently agreed to buy it) and i decided to go for a run on the way back - so I didn't get to head out until around 13.00 - by which time it was quite warm - T shirt weather only, in December.
After about 2 minutes it was clear that I wasn't recovered from Tuesday, I could feel it in my legs still - my long run needs to be the one with two days rest after it.
Still I persisted, walking the steep bits as a bit of an experiment compared to when I ran up the entire hill the previous Saturday, and my uphill time was actually a tad faster, with the walking the steep bits, I guess it's more efficient and I can run the less steep bits slightly faster!
Sunny day!
I had to sit down at the top of that run, it was too much, I took it gently on the way down. There's nothing to be gained from pounding downhill anyway.
Then I had Saturday off, I needed a reset, and besides I also knew I'd be running Monday rather than Tuesday next week....
Next week's plans
I need to change my days - I have only just established my new Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday routine, thinking I was avoiding the local hunting days, which I thought were Wednesdays and Sundays, however I learned this week that they are Sundays and Thursdays, so I need to change!
So for next week I will switch to....
- Mondays
- Wednesdays
- Saturdays
I'm not overly happy about this, I like Monday as a pure work day, but I guess if I make that my quick 5K run, Weds can be a kind of mid-week break long run, then Saturdays can be my easy 8-10K run.
I don't particularly want to get shot.
