We'd harvested 1.3 Tonnes of olives by yesterday but were having some difficulty sorting out somewhere to get them pressed - the local press in Penamacor is out of action for three weeks, broken down, as is one other local press.
This of course means that EVERYONE is relying on the other various presses in the area, one of which had a 50 car queue outside it the other day.
We thought we'd made an appointment at a certain press for Tuesday afternoon, but when we called to confirm it turned out we didn't have an appointment, maybe it was lost in translation, maybe the guy at the press was shitting us, maybe that's just Portugal, but, whatever, we didn't get them pressed!
We ended up having to go to Spain early yesterday morning with our 1.3 tonnes of Olives, leave them there, and then they'll press them for us once we harvest another 0.7 tonnes as there's a 2 tonne minimum on this.
They kindly gave us this to fill up over the next two days...
So we need to 3/4 fill it to make up two tonnes in total.
We managed to fill one third of it yesterday, in a short day, all the scrappy trees - around 30 in total with not very much on so it wasn't the most efficient harvest yesterday, as you still have to move all the nets around even if you're only getting say 10 KG per tree.
Today should be better - Terra 4 has apparently 10 trees which are fully laden, which is what you want.
However, I'm feeling shattered, I think I'll go in silent mode today, just work steadily, keep my mouth shut for the most part and just get on with it, leave a little early and come back and collapse!
