So I spent a nice few nights in Covilha and managed to not die in a traffic accident getting out of Covilha. I left at 8.15 in the morning to maximise my chances of staying alive (much later start to the day in this part of the world!)
I drove to Penamacor just to check to the place out really, parked up, wandered around a bit, found a nice park and had a coffee, although the waitress didn't seem too impressed with my first ever attempt to order one in Portuguese - I guess it'll come!
Penamacor is lovely, I mean I could just happily live there, or Covilha for that matter and not even bother with the whole finding land thing, so I guess the upside there is that I'm in no rush!
The main problem I've got is that I'm so used to just not going out that I don't know how I'm ever going to learn the language.
I mean I quite happily spent 4 nights in Covilha just working in my AirBandB, a couple of runs, and few walks around the city, it's not as if I know anyone around here, just like I never really knew anyone in Hereford where I lived for a couple of years!
Or do I even need to really learn the language if I don't ever go out?
Anyway, I managed to not drive my car into an ungetoutable of narrow street en route to my present destination in Orca, which is an AirBnB Yurt for 8 nights.
I learned en-route that I need to change my conception of what a road is: what look like purely pedestrian areas to me are just fine to drive up and down!
I arrived around 14.00 yesterday, and I'm writing this from a nice lounger at 8.30 in the morning over a cup of tea- it's already around 15 degrees, NICE!
Barking dogs for an hour after sunset (I get the feeling that might just be a rural Portuguese thing, nothing ear plugs can't handle thankfully) it's a VERY pleasant place to stay.
There's also a separate kitchen/ shower unit with hot water, it's very well set up here!
What I've learned pretty quickly is that I could so easily live like this - that size yurt, which I think is 4 metres, is easily enough, AND, AND (CRUCIALLY) there's VERY GOOD 4 G internet, it's even better than back in Hereford!
Now THAT's something I never expected.
I'm not really sure what happened to yesterday afternoon/ evening. Seven hours just sort of disappeared over unpacking, a couple of meals, messing around on Hive, oops!
My main challenge is that I've got to get use to getting out again, that's an effort - All I really want to do is hibernate and live online, but that ain't gonna get be a place to stay or land bought!
Appreciate the irony that I'm about to head in Fundao to pick up an unlimited 4G Dongle thingy to see me through to the end of 2020, and some food, I need food!
