Ever since my family’s been in central-western Mexico, we’ve seen so much beauty. The tropical plants, animals, birds, bugs,- wait bugs!? How’d that sneak itself in there!?
If you would’ve told me about the beauty of bugs when I was seven or eight, I would have agreed with you full force. Except now that I’ve had to, y’know, actually get rid of them and work to keep them out of the house, I no longer feel much love for those tiny monsters. You let them in once and they live in your house rent-free and try to eat your food and multiply. Yuck.
I’ve encountered scorpions, locusts, fruit-flies, you name it! If I took a picture of every bug I saw around here, I’d have a freakin’ photo album!
Did I mention flies are still a big problem? They zoom in, do a good lap around the first floor and then bang against the screen door to get back out. Then you open the screen door and they pretend to be blind. The nerve of them!
But anyway, I’m focusing on one recent pest encounter.
Last weekend my Dad called me outside to see what some ants were up to in our backyard. There was a whole trail of ants coming from a tiny hole in our wall all the way across the yard to a spot by the screen door. The ants had made some sort of bonfire circle around a poor gecko. Now, I’m used to seeing geckos. They love sneaking into the house at midnight to eat and do whatever it is gecko’s do (probably host lizard house parties). But this one in particular had some unfortunate luck. This pink colored gecko was surrounded by ants.
My brother walked past me to see theand was all “Aw cool ants! That gecko is done for.” and I just stared at him and mimicked “Aw cool, ants,” because who finds ants cool!?
My dad had warned me about how these awful creatures will eat anything in a day, and that unlucky gecko was their latest target.
I hate ants so obviously I felt disgusted and didn’t stare at the sight for too long. I left not thinking much of it. Just a million ants vs. one gecko. He was bigger than them, he wouldn’t let no’ tiny bugs devour him, right? The next morning I came back and can you guess who won?
Obviously not the gecko!
I was shocked. My brother just looked at the bones with a plain face as if this was to be expected.
My brain was still trying to register what happened. “They… they.. ATE him, and left his cruddy scraps!? Where were the gecko’s eyes!? I’m not believing they just ate his eyes or something!
The worst part was that some ants were still around the head, eating what pink there was left of him! It was a terrible sight to see.
I guess I learned something: Ants are vicious and don’t leave anything you care about in a room with them.
Anywho thanks for reading!
