Celebrities chose it. TV shows promote it. A lot of people these days advocate for it. The devil whispers in people's ear that the best choice is to choose it, but is it?
The answer is no. The answer has always been no.
Suicide doesn't end your problems. It ends any opportunity for things to get better. It doesn't end pain. It creates indescribable pain for many. It's not glamourous, it's ugly.
And when God said 'Thou shalt not murder' he also meant not to take your own life.
I had my share of wanting to die in my time. I had my war with depression and my moments where living seemed to hurt too much and I didn't know how to bear it. And I came out the other side with the perfect answer.
I speak not just what I've heard but what I've experienced. What I've felt. What I've seen.
What a lot of people don't understand is that there's spiritual warfare going on inside them and all around them. Satan wants you to be depressed, overwhelmed, and feeling like you can't go on. Satan likes to get inside your mind and plant thoughts there, thoughts that you might think are your own thoughts, and he likes to make your problems seem insurmountable.
I heard a clip with Chester Bennington saying in an interview something to the effect of 'there's another Chester in here and he's trying to take me out'.
I used to have a similar battle. But that 'other you' isn't really you. It's the devil lying to you. All those words that bring death, when you feel like it's a part of your own mind telling you lies like 'I'm so ugly, I'm so useless, I'm so stupid, everyone hates me, I should just end it" on and on it goes. Recognize that for who it is...it isn't you. It's your adversary.
Only the world has taught us to find it in sex and romantic relationships, and those things alone will never satisfy the need we have for love. It'll leave us with an empty space. Romance and sex is great when they're in the context God intented (marriage) but the deepest love need of the human heart is for God.
Even if the devil has lied to you a million times and told you "God doesn't love you, you're not good enough, you've been too bad, you're worthless, why would God want you?" and so many other lies...you need to know Satan is the FATHER of lies. And even though he may be screaming those lies at you, the truth remains above the noise:
That means forsaking the darkness and turning to the Light. That means turning your life and heart over to Jesus and letting Him heal you and clean you up. Becoming a new creation. That means letting Him transform your mind and heart.
