One of the joys that a teacher can have throughout their career is the feeling of fulfillment when a student makes unexpected progress. Even if you teach because you have to, not because you want to, which is my case, I still get excited and glad when I see that all the hard work is worth it and that it really pays off.

Another month has ended, and my student and I have made great progress under the circumstances of the case; As I explained in another post, this is a very difficult instrument to teach online, and as we progress, it becomes increasingly difficult to explain in detail what you need to do to learn to play well.
Another thing to keep in mind is that he doesn't know how to read music yet, so I can't send him sheet music or anything like that because he won't understand. But he needed to move forward, mainly for him, to motivate him and encourage him to study more.
So, I had to do something that I don't like, but I couldn't think of anything else: I took a song and I transcribed into Sibelius program, and I put the name of the notes on top of each one so he would know what to play. Maybe I could have found another way, but the thing is, it worked! The next session, he hadn't study at all, because he had not been able to print it but that same day, so, in the middle of the session I decide to give it a try:
Old Macdonald had a farm E-I-E-I-O
He nailed it! The most difficult part for him was the eighth notes, because they require a fast movement of the tongue in the tip of the reed for them to come out naturally. But he started to practice without even paying me any attention, as if I wasn't there, he just tried and tried until they came out fine! It was awsome to see the motivation in him and the trill he felt just knowing that he was finally playing his first musical piece.
