Good morning friends! It’s been a while since I dropped a post on #hive, I am back at it now and I really wish you would lend me your eyes and heart to see deeply what I have to say in this article.
Coincidentally today is Sunday, the beginning of a new week so let’s get into it wuth the right mindset! Now there is something strange about the way many of us have learned to measure our days like we already have a template or standard which we live or quantify the effectiveness of our day.
Take for example if we wake up early, work for several hours, complete tasks, learn something new, exercise, answer messages or maybe make some money and accomplish a lot of different things, we would feel like the day was very productive and that’s how it’s meant to be but if we wake up, do very little and spend some time simply existing, we can go to bed feeling like we wasted the entire day…. Wow! 😵💫 who told us that? Why do we think so? Why does doing nothing sometimes make us feel guilty?
There’s nothing bad about that tho but I think part of the problem is that we have been surrounded by the idea that we should always be improving ourselves by a rate that may be impossible or exuberant or simply higher than we can afford just because we all are not built the same way.
Sometimes I feel like we should learn to rest because naturally there is always another skill to learn, another book to read, another business to build, another course to take, another workout to complete, another message to answer and another goal waiting for us! As long as we are living there will always be things to do. Now even entertainment has become productive we don’t just watch something anymore, we even do it almost in the midst of everything, we watch something while checking our phones, we listen to music while working, scroll while eating, answer messages while watching movies sometimes we even wake up and immediately start to consume information thwm at the end of the day we go to bed with our minds still processing everything that happened during the day, even while resting we still put our minds and brain to work… hmmm that’s quite dangerous tho because if we live like that for so long at some point, even rest would begin to feel uncomfortable that’s why we finally sit down after a long day and instead of feeling relaxed our brain starts listing everything that we haven’t done.
And this is where I think many people misunderstand productivity because we sometimes behave as if the human body is supposed to work like a machine. Some people might even think that as long as there is electricity we should keep it running keep producing keep moving keep consuming information and basically just keep achieving but the sad truth or reality is that humans don’t work that way.
Health wise or even generally our body needs recovery just as our mind needs silence and the things we give some attention to needs a break, that’s the only way we don’t end up crashing out or breaking down. Even your motivation needs space to come back!
We should change our mindset and mentality to know that rest is not the enemy of progress because in many situations, rest is part of the process that makes progress possible, we always need to recharge and stay strong to keep going. Now let’s take this very simple example think about your phone when the battery becomes low, what do you do automatically ? you don’t insult the phone for needing to charge or you don’t say, “Why are you being lazy? you should still be working.” 😂 but instead you do something else which is to replenish the battery and actually you plug it in because you understand that without enough energy the device cannot continue functioning properly, now thats a very good perspective and way to treat our phones but why can’t we treat ourselves that way too!? Yet we sometimes treat ourselves worse than we treat our phones which is very bad.
We keep going until we are completely exhausted and then wonder why we cannot concentrate, why everything irritates us, why simple tasks feel difficult and why we have no motivation.
People of nowadays don’t even know that there is a difference between laziness and recovery or they just choose to ignore. Laziness can mean deliberately avoiding something you know needs to be done but rest is different. Rest is just like saying, I have been doing enough, i just need to step away for a while.
Sometimes all we need to do is sleep, rest , hibernate or just chill out! We don’t need another skill or job or task at the moment but we just need to rest to replenish our mind for effectiveness.
We should consider rest as a fuel ⛽️ to our lives and productivity.
