We rest, repair, heal, regenerate, work through our thoughts and emotions and even go on spiritual adventures while we are sleeping. Yet, many of us feel drained, tired and exhausted after another night of not sleeping well.

Here are a few tips to help you create a more restful sleep:

  1. DINNER TIME: Try to finish your last meal at least 2 hours before going to bed so that your body won’t be occupied with heavy digestion during the night and can focus on rest and regeneration instead.

  2. ROUTINE: Creating a consistent routine helps our body to realise when we are getting ready for bed and already diving into the relax mode which makes it easier to calm down and fall asleep. Such as going to bed at the same time every day and repeating certain habits right before bedtime.

  3. BLUE LIGHT: Turn the blue light on your phone off a few hours before going to bed. The blue light surpresses the release of melatonin - our sleep hormone.

  4. TURN IT OFF: Put your phone on airplane mode and if possible turn off your wifi router altogether to create a healthier environment over night .

  5. DARK: Creating full darkness in our room helps our body to realise that it’s night time and it’s usually easier for us to fall asleep. If you don’t have dark curtains, face masks can be a great tool.

  6. CALMING: An evening gratitude practice, meditation, some light reading, yoga nidra or soft music helps us to relax and let go of all those thoughts and emotions that have occupied us over the day.

If you are unsatisfied with the quality or quantity of your sleep, I hope these little tricks will help you to create more supportive nighttime habits and dive into that restful, deep and comfortable sleep state.

Sweet dreams and sleep well tonight,
Anais
