馃 The grey-headed woodpecker (Picus canus), also known as the grey-faced woodpecker
馃摎 Picus (lat.) woodpecker; in Romanesque mythology, Peak, or Picus, the Roman god of forests and the king of Latium, distinguished by male beauty, rejected the love claims of the sorceress Circe (Kirka), after which the offended Kirka turned him into a woodpecker
馃摎 canus (lat.) gray
This unusual and rare species of woodpecker comes across to me not often. And it happens mostly in the autumn. Actually these photos were taken by me at the end of October.
This buddy was somehow interested in this broken tree, and he examined it very persistently.
From the way he used his long tongue, there were some insects in there. I think it was aphids, only you can see it in this already cold season.
