I have been working hard on this yoga journey and sharing small posts with you all. Today it caught my attention that it isn't that hard to follow s habit building once you have learn to understand that is a process and failure is going to happen but determination should prevail. I recently read the Zen habits book from Leo Babauta, un this book you can explore the struggles and thoughts associated with habit creation. It is a practical guide to form few new habits in your life before you eventually decide to quit a bad habit in your life. I'm not trying to advertise his book but I would like to summarize some key concepts to succeed at building new habits.
- try to create it progressively, incrementing duration.
- try to be consistent and he suggests yobgo for 30 days to build the habit.
- failure and struggles will happen, bear with them and forgive yourself when you fail.
- do not be that hard with yourself and instead focus on creating or increasing commitment by telling your goals and how the habit you are trying to create will help you reach them. Sometimes having someone to encourage you, remember you to do it or just feel some pressure to not let down that person will help you.
- find your real motivation and set your goals accordingly.
Almost getting there, soon I will reach 30 days of yoga practice but today I feel blessed to have my wife joining me for the fourth night in a row, it's a two way comittmment because I want her to join me but I need to keep myself motivated and hopefully she will feel motivated to join me.
A side effect of this yoga experiment is to open up with you and share how I feel after doing yoga and meditation, part of the meditation is come and write something with a clear mind that will be useful for you. I'm trying to be totally honest about the experience so it would be a reference for others that are willing to start or are trying to find some guidance.
