It's another wonderful week, so glad when I saw this week's prompt. Thanks @theinkwell for always bringing exciting topics to write on. As humans, there are always plans for how we want our lives to be but sometimes it doesn't go as planned because of circumstances of life. Many of us adapt quickly to change while many struggle within to find their path in the storms of life. Sometimes I do imagine being everything successful like having two or more professions and being successful in them all.
"I can be a medical doctor, a lawyer, an architect, and so on and still be successful at it all," I said to my dad one day. That was at an age when I didn't know who I wanted to become, a naive age when I thought everything would work out as per my command. "When you grow older, you will understand that sometimes in life, things don't go as we planned", my dad smiled and replied. Then I started having a weird feeling of "Would it be possible to be everything I wanted to be?". Anytime I see a successful person in their endeavors, I want to be like such an individual.
Before I resolved to want to become a medical doctor, I was a typical example of a jack of all trades because I wanted to become everything successful. At that time finding my path was indeed like searching for a needle in a haystack because I didn't know who I wanted to become. When I came of age, old enough to understand the facts of life, my dad called me one night to make me see and understand that life isn't a bed of roses nor does it go as planned always. " By now I guess you have made up your mind on what you want for yourself and whatever it is you want to become in life" he started, I adjusted my sit because my dad doesn't usually call for a one-on-one meeting except it is important. So for him to call me for a talk, I sure knew he meant business.
"Firstly girl", he continued, " don't ever go into a business or profession with the mindset of becoming a millionaire a day, such career or business will crumble because the only reason you are there is for the money, not the impact and that money will be your focus neglecting many other things you should have taken care of" at that time I became a little confused and I thought " why won't I want to make money?" then I asked, "the motive of everyone going into a business or any career is to make money and be successful at it, why then shouldn't I have the mindset of making money first?" he smiled and nodded his head. Right in my heart I was saying " is this coming from an economist?"
"I know what you are thinking, You think all this is coming from a man who loves money?" I smiled because he caught me in the thought. "To be successful in life my dear, you need to know who you are and find your purpose, you can't achieve anything by being everything. You have to be you" he concluded. That night I understood more and erased the mindset of wanting to become everything just because I wanted to be successful and make money.
