One of the greatest things that must be done by a person to achieve greatness in life is to guard one's heart and not only that, but also to stay focused, which means, one must know where one is going as this would help such a person to be able to avoid distraction in life.
If there's anyone that can be easily convinced out of his or her path or way, then such a person would be easily distracted and this if not care would hinder the success of such a person in life as happened to me while growing up.
Although, while growing up or let me say when I was a kid, there were many things in terms of job or profession which I had dreamt of. The first was that I wanted to become a soldier as I loved the military job with so much passion, not just because of anything, but because of the prestige that's being accorded to the job. Although there was the aspect of life saving there which was the main anchor on which the military was based, but as for me, I have neglected the main purpose of the job and cherished only the prestige.
I would have gone for it at the early stage of my life, but for the fear of guns and being killed in battle, I couldn't proceed.
However, other than that, I have always loved to be an investor, most especially when I was of age as I have done my research on how I can invest on land and be a realtor or a land speculator.
It's my research that took me to a street brother who was into the business. When I got to bro. Yomi, I asked him saying,
“Bro Yomi, can I start this kind of business?” When he heard this he smiled and said, “Sam, this our business is good and lucrative as well, but one thing is that you must get capital and mind,” he replied. “Okay, I know that capital, but what does having a mind have to do with your business?” I asked. “Guy, you must get a strong mind so that you will be able to face the numerous challenges associated with our business and so as not to be scammed.” He said. “Can you for a little while put me through?” I asked. “There's no problem about that, whenever you are ready. I'm available for you,” he replied. “I will get in touch with you as soon as possible sir,” I replied.
After a few weeks of our discussion, I went back to bro. Yomi started learning about the rudiment of his real estate business and it's on getting there that I got to know what he meant about huge capital business and getting mind.
When I got there, I realised that the business cannot be done with small capital as the prices of lands and properties have gone up, so, huge amount of money is really required for the business.
Aside from this, I also realised that if one is not strong in the mind, then the person would just be chased out of the business with ease without him achieving anything in the business.
Having seen how things were being done in the business, I decided to be strong in mind and look for capital to start my own business with after my learning process with bro. Yomi.
Although with the little money I have with me, I have invested it with bro. Yomi company, but since the money wouldn't be enough to start my own firm at the end of the day, I decided to consult people. Out of those I consulted was a good friend of mine, Eben.
I called him and narrated everything to him saying,
“Eben, I have just found out about the real estate business and I saw it's a lucrative business that needs enough capital.” “Yeah, it needs enough capital as I have a friend doing it,” he replied. “Okay, I don't even know you have a friend doing it,” I said. “I have a friend doing it,” he replied. “What do you want me to do for you, Sam?” he asked. “Thank you, I need capital to start the business, can you please be of assistance to me?” I asked. “There's no problem about that, only that I have a better option to that which you have brought before me today,” he said.
It's at this point that he began to tell me about his own piggery business. He told me that I didn't really need a huge capital to start the business other than a small token. When I heard this I was so elated as his sugar coated mouth really did the magic in me.
After he had told me about how the business is being run, I decided to give it a trial and I called bro. Yomi helped me sell the properties I have with him. He was at first reluctant to sell it until I promised to re-invest the money as soon as possible.
After bro. Yomi has sent me the money, I went to Eben who helped me to put the pen in place and got the pigs to get out there. He also taught me some techniques and how to run the business. I thanked him for helping me with the idea even though he had not helped me with money.
However, a few months after I had started the farm, there's an outbreak of swine flu and this flu affected all my pigs and that's how I lost all the pigs and the investment. It's kind of painful to me as I thought I would have stuck to what my mind told me to do rather than what I was convinced to do by a friend. Although, the same flu affected Eben's pigs too but not as much as my own. It's then that I realised that what works for A might not actually work for B.
I'm now back to bro. Yomi’s company and I'm starting my dream business all over again and this time around, I will not allow any form of distraction.
