So my last post mentioned my current Minecraft flavor of the month that has me addicted. I've been balancing that addiction with one other game: Battletech. I've preordered the new game and have been playing it on and off when I can. You run a mercenary squad through some turbulent times all the while trying to complete missions while still balancing the books. There is also some core plot mission you can work your way through that provides some interesting stories and more interesting missions.
The gameplay is turn-based, which is right up my alley. You control a lance of four Mechs and while you do have the main character, they might even be on a given mission. You can improve your mechs and even level up your pilots between missions, although they occasionally don't make it back. The game seems well balanced where I've had to pull out all the tactical tricks I know to try and pull out a victory against 2 to 1 odds. I've even thought I was going to lose a couple of missions, but I barely pulled them out in the end. The game has a high "just one more turn feel" which is why I stayed up way to late last night. I am going to be paying for that today.
