This time I kept walking past Ayacucho Park and the skateboarding area; I’d never ventured that far before. My initial motivation was spotting a white bird in the distance, on the other side of the Manzanares River. Curiosity guided my steps, and I crept stealthily along the riverbank. There, I noticed the ground changing—the dark sand gave way to mud, and my shoes sank in—but I pressed on with my expedition.
With my phone in hand and moving quietly, I stopped in front of a beautiful white heron; its elegance was quite striking. It remained perched there until I captured the moment. This unique encounter reminds me that wildlife is incredibly diverse and that every living being plays an important role in our ecosystem.
After this encounter, I said goodbye to the heron and walked until I reached the Raúl Leoni Bridge. Along the way, I noticed that there are modest homes in this area; there were even some people sitting under some trees, with bulls grazing nearby. I’ve always had respect for these animals, which is why I don’t get too close; however, from a safe distance, I took a few photographs.
Under the bridge, I saw fishermen with their boat at rest; they were preparing their gear for the day’s work. This is the first time I’ve ventured to walk through these areas, and I discovered a whole new world on that side of the river. I never thought I’d find a heron and grazing cattle; I enjoy uncovering unusual glimpses of life in Cumana.
This exit onto the Raúl Leoni Bridge provides access to several roads: El Islote Avenue, Humboldt Avenue, Petión Avenue, and Las Palomas Avenue, while the river continues its course to the market and Boca del Río, the area where it flows into the sea.
