I continued my walk along the banks of the Manzanares River; this time I went much further and enjoyed the incredible shade provided by the trees on the side of Ayacucho Park. The water reflects the green of the foliage—it’s a very pleasant sensation, like being inside a postcard or painting these natural elements on a blank canvas.
Without a doubt, nature is an endless source of inspiration for creativity; here, inspiration can be found in every corner—exactly what’s needed to share ideas and innovate. I had the chance to watch a boat sailing on these waters, but on this occasion, its occupant wasn’t fishing—instead, they were drawing water from the river to partially make up for the lack of water in the pipes, a problem the city has been facing for several months now.
On this side of the river, there’s a sense of peace and tranquility, but on the other side, you can see the old market facilities and the mini passenger terminal, which looked chaotic with people moving back and forth among cars, motorcycles, minibuses, and street vendors, heading to The Cocos, Bolivariano, Campeche, Zabilar, and other areas.
The contrast is striking: the same river, yet two very different banks. I’m on the peaceful side, enjoying the scenery without any rush or thoughts urging me to leave this place in a hurry. Right now I’m looking at banana plantations and other vegetation in Ayacucho Park, in the area set aside for skateboarders—a spot that’s usually very quiet in the early afternoon and leads to the end of Humboldt Avenue. The journey feels short when I walk along the river, taking in this view—a far cry from walking down the avenue with traffic vying for dominance over the space.
