Exploring The Cocalitos Beach (Eng/Esp)

Join me on a new adventure. Today we will explore Los Cocalitos beach, located in Marigüitar, in the Bolívar municipality of Sucre state. I took this trip with my family, and my husband posted his impressions. You can see them here. Now I will show you what we found in terms of flora and fauna through my curious eyes. I was impressed by the landscape, the crystal clear water with two shades of blue in the distance, indicating where the depth would be changing. This beautiful beach is part of the community of the same name. Here I found very friendly people who are dedicated to fishing. In fact, there was a boat under construction and others in the water anchored to some logs.

From the water, you could see the other side of the gulf. I hope to visit it soon and bring you the details. In the distance, I saw a thick fog obscuring the brown mountains, which were a beautiful backdrop to the immensity of the blue sky and sea. I also saw some clouds decorating the sky, the perfect complement to inspire poets and artists.

The shore of this beach has many shells and snails, as well as stones of various sizes. There I could identify neritas, turbans, sea tulips, and cones. Beautiful marine species that I photographed as if I had found treasure. Exploring a little further, I dug into the shore and pulled out an abundance of chipi-chipis. It was the perfect opportunity to collect a good amount, with the idea of preparing a recipe at home and taking advantage of the bounty of this beach in Marigüitar.

In the sky, I spotted seagulls, gulls, and pelicans. The latter were large birds with white plumage that flew close to the surface of the sea, opening their beaks to fish. The most impressive thing was seeing them all hunting, while the pelicans flew low, the gulls dove from a considerable height. The fluttering of the birds is synonymous with fish moving in crystal clear waters. A little away from these birds, I observed a small swallow perched on the electric fence.

The beach was full of mangroves, these trees were on the shore and their twisted trunks were visible. Of course, to be in this habitat they are resistant to salt spray and strong winds. I also came across mango trees, but as it is not the season, they had no fruit. Another tree that provided us with shade was the neem tree, which is highly resistant to drought. The truth is that the shore is populated by various trees that make the place pleasant, and we can sit under them to enjoy the scenery.

In addition to fish and seabirds, I found native chickens, roosters, ducks, two bulls, and a donkey near the beach. I admit that I was surprised to see the two bulls walking calmly, seeking shade under the trees and grazing peacefully. I checked my clothes to make sure I wasn't wearing anything red, just in case. I suppose all these animals belong to the people who were nearby repairing the boat.

The donkey, on the other hand, was a little further away from the bulls, each grazing in its own territory, and brayed constantly. So, in this marine ecosystem, there is also room for terrestrial fauna, especially that sample of cattle that was disturbing. I remember that the two bulls stood intimidatingly in the middle of the dirt road that connects the beach to the outside, so I had to wait for them to decide to move before I could go from one place to another. It turned out to be an unforgettable anecdote.

I had a great time on this trip, especially because the beach is one of my favorite places, and I took advantage of this trip to connect with nature and relax for a while.

Acompañénme a una nueva aventura, hoy exploraremos la playa "Los Cocalitos", ubicada en Marigüitar, en el Municipio Bolívar del estado Sucre. Realicé este recorrido con mi familia, mi esposo hizo una publicación con sus impresiones, pueden verla aquí. Ahora les mostraré los hallazgos que encontramos con respecto a la flora y la fauna a través de mi mirada curiosa. Me quedé impresionada con el paisaje, el agua cristalina con dos tonalidades de azul en la distancia, indicando donde estaría cambiando la profundidad. Esta bella playa forma parte de la comunidad del mismo nombre. Acá encontré personas muy amables, quienes se dedican a la pesca, de hecho había un bote en construcción y otros en el agua anclados a algunos troncos.

Desde el agua se podía observar el otro lado del golfo, espero visitarlo pronto y traerles los pormenores. A lo lejos aprecié una densa niebla que opacaba el marrón de las montañas, eran un hermoso telón en la inmensidad de lo azul del cielo y del mar. También observé algunas nubes que decoraban el firmamento, el complemento perfecto para inspirar a poetas y artistas.

La orilla de esta playa tiene muchas conchas y caracoles, además de piedras de diversos tamaños, allí pude identificar neritas, turbantes, tulipán de mar y cono. Hermosas especies marinas que fotografié como quien encuentra un tesoro. Explorando un poco más, escarbé en la orilla y saqué chipi-chipis en abundancia, la ocasión fue propicia para recolectar una buena cantidad, la idea era preparar alguna receta en casa y aprovechar las bondades de esta playa de Marigüitar.

En el cielo divisé tijeretas, gaviotas y pelícanos. Estos últimos eran pájaros de buen tamaño, de plumaje blanco que volaban a ras de la superficie del mar abriendo su pico para pescar. Lo más impresionante fue verlos a todos en plena cacería, mientras los pelícanos volaban bajo, las gaviotas se lanzaban en picada desde una altura considerable. El revolotear de las aves es sinónimo de peces moviéndose en aguas cristalinas. Un poco alejado de estas aves observé a una pequeña golondrina posada en el cercado eléctrico.

En la playa abundaban los mangles, estos árboles estaban en la orilla y se apreciaban sus troncos retorcidos. Por supuesto, para estar en este hábitat son resistentes al salitre y a los vientos fuertes. Además me topé con matas de mango y como no es temporada carecían de frutos. Otro ejemplar que nos arropó con su sombra fue el Neem, el cual tiene gran resistencia a la sequía. Lo cierto es que la orilla está poblada de diveros árboles que hacen agradable el lugar y debajo de ellos podemos sentarnos a disfrutar del paisaje.

Además de peces y aves marinas, en las cercanías de la playa encontré gallinas criollas, gallos, patos, dos toros y un burro. Admito que me sorprendió observar a los dos toros caminando muy tranquilos, buscando la sombra de los árboles y pastando plácidamente. Revisé mi vestimenta para constatar que no tenía nada rojo encima, por si acaso. Supongo que todos estos animales pertenecen a las personas que estaban allí cerca reparando el bote.

Por su parte el burro sí estaba un tanto alejado de los toros, cada uno pastando en su territorio, emitía su característico rebuzno a cada instante. Así que en este ecosistema marino también hay espacio para fauna terrestre, sobre todo esa muestra de ganado vacuno que inquietaba, recuerdo que los dos toros se pararon intimidantes en medio del camino de tierra que comunica a la playa con el exterior, así que tuve que esperar que decidieran moverse para trasladarme de un lugar a otro, resultó una anécdota inolvidable.

Me divertí mucho en este viaje, sobre todo, porque la playa es uno de mis lugares favoritos y aproveché este recorrido para conectar con la naturaleza y relajarme un rato.
