Nice to meet you too! That use to be the case, but now (especially since the Olympics are coming up in 2020) in Tokyo and other large cities like Osaka and Nagoya all signs have roman characters as well

Japan is what you make it, just like anywhere else. I think many people become disenfranchised with where they are from and discover Japan and then think it's going to be some kind of utopia. It's not.
