Quick read about quest potions, is it worth it?
We've all seen them before, quest potions. Some say it's a gamble, others say it's a good way of reaping more rewards. Something I've learned playing games with RNG factors, there's no such thing as a gamble if you plan on doing this for the long term. So is it profitable if you keep buying the potions every day?
To answer that question, we'll have to look at how much a gold chest is worth on average. Lucky for me there's some great tooling available on splintercards.com to see how much each chest is worth per rank. As you can see in the picture, the average chest value in Champion 1, is valued at 0.173 USD or 165 DEC.
With the current price of a quest potion being 750 DEC and giving you 5 additional chests each quest. This would net you 5 times 165 DEC minus 750 DEC = 75 DEC, which is barely profitable considering the rewards and requirements in Champion 1.
For Bronze players, it's an entirely different story. When we use the same tooling to check the average value of a chest in Bronze 1 then we're looking at this table.
In the table you can see that the value on average would be only 45 DEC, meaning the 5 additional chests from the quest potion are worth 225 DEC losing you 525 DEC when buying quest potions.
So whether you are a beginner in Bronze or a veteran in champion, buying quest potions will never give you a lot of profit with the current rates. Only if you are in the champion league you can buy these potions without feeling too bad about it, but below Champion, you will be losing DEC in the long term.
Hopefully, this clarifies a few things about the quest potion. Especially for new players, I wouldn't recommend buying them as your DEC rewards are much better used by buying new cards so you can rise in ranking. This way you'll get extra daily rewards chests even without buying potions every day.
Have a great day everybody!
