Will tomorrow ever come? Jason asked himself while painting an artwork in the living room. Jason is a young graduate in his early twenties who’s also blessed with the ability to draw just exactly as people want it. Jason has been in search of jobs but didn’t get one and decides to begin drawing. He takes the drawing very seriously as a full career. Instead of going out every morning to make ends meet, he sits in the living room and draws his artwork.
How does he make money?
He makes money by giving his artworks to those who hawk them on the road. Anyone who falls in love with those artworks is surely going to go for them and that way he makes money. He pays commission to those who help him in selling his artworks.
In the early nineties, Jason was picked up beside the gutter by Madam Martha but after her death, he has no one to run to than struggle to for himself. He fends for himself till he graduated from the University. Jason is really lucky to have people who love his artworks and they call on him all the time they need someone to help them with some paintings.
Bruno is Jason’s friend and he traveled outside Nigeria two years ago. He’s always on video call with Jason hinting him about how interesting and beautiful Canada is.
How did Bruno get to travel outside Nigeria?
His artworks took him there. Some white people fell in love with the artwork and he was called to come work in a Helen Art Gallery in Canada.
To be very honest, he isn’t as good as Jason but he’s luckier. He must be a very lucky guy.
Jason has gone for so many art contests but didn’t win until he was lucky to meet Don. The Don is a drug pusher and transports drugs like cocaine from Nigeria to other countries like America and all. He met Don when he went to give his works to those who hawk his artworks by the main road. Don inserts some drugs into all the artworks he buys from Jason. Jason has no idea about this since all he does was go to Don’s house once in two weeks to deliver about eight artworks.
Jason tells Don about his story and felt pity for him and Jason did that because he heard so many about Don with the way he helps people and transport those with good artworks to other countries so they could be in a better place. All the glitters is not Gold and you never can tell what they were up to or the kind of agreement those people had with Don.
Don promises to help Jason and within two weeks, they began to process the visa and every other thing Jason will need over there. Don never told him that he was going to help him transport some drugs. He was only told that he’d transport some artworks to someone in the United States. When Jason finished the process, a day to catch up his flight, he decided to go to his house to bid his neighbors a farewell. On getting home, everywhere in the area was rough. He managed to get inside his apartment and began to hear gunshots. It was really scary that the vibration of the bullets was hitting so hard in the living room.
The touts were really fighting each other and it isn’t safe for people to go outside. Some houses were burning, the bullets were penetrating into some people’s house and the people were dying. This felt like the end of the world in Ebutte Meta, Lagos. Jason regrets his actions for coming home to bid his neighbors a farewell. He was up all night while his heart was beating to the boom of the gun and the penetration of the bullets to his house.
Life is art for every creative person. Jason brought out his sketch pad and began to draw. He drew his living room and the way the bullets penetrated his house. He couldn’t go out the next day to the airport due to the chaos that happened in his neighborhood.
He missed the opportunity of traveling to the UK and Don promised not to ever help him again.
After a few months, he heard about the World’s Art Contest and decided to apply. He brought out the artwork he drew that night while the chaos was going on and named the artwork will tomorrow ever come?
He explained to the the judges about what happened and the way he was sitting hopelessly at that night thinking that the world was going to end and he doesn’t know if tomorrow will ever come.
Jason won this contest and had the opportunity to see his friend, Bruno in Canada.
