The post goes for CCC's Street Art Contest - week #81
The inscription on his helmet says "USSR" -- which means, this is definitely one of the cats who worked for rocket science and space exploration program in the good old 60s.
I am completely unable to remember the last time I participated in this challenge. For a long time, I think more than six months ago, or maybe a year. The thing is that I experience a catastrophic lack of fresh graffiti photos; as for the old ones.... there are old photos, I can find some of this stuff browsing thru my old the archives (which I do quite on rare occasions), but this material does not really encourage me to blogging.
After such a lyrical introduction, I turn to photographs. This interesting place is located in St. Petersburg on Gatchinskaya street, in the courtyard between houses 6 / 8. I found this courtyard by chance using the Monte Carlo method, randomly checking the surrounding streets and courtyards during the next walk.
All in all, I checked this yard three times, equipped with different lenses, and now I think of coming back equipped with my Zenitar 16mm - a manual fisheye lens. As you can see, the courtyard is huge, and more than half of its surface is painted, it is rather difficult to photograph all this visually, and even doing the certain parts is not easy.
This photo shows almost the entire yard... about 2/3 of its space. The right wall is a metal grate, deaf, closed, inconvenient for drawing, and another wall is an unplastered brick, also inconvenient for drawing. But the other two walls, decorated with plaster, are completely covered with graffiti - the utilization rate is 200%.
The first time I visited the yard was in April; the city does not have any green grass at this time, what you see is of course an artificial turf football field. This courtyard is the official sports ground, and this is the reason why no one, neither the municipal government of the city, nor the owner of the building, removes the drawings from the walls.
Local youth play football here, develop their muscles on the installed simulators, and maybe .... also develop the creative aspect of their brains, with a can of paint in their hands )))) I was especially pleased with a fragment of graffiti, clearly made by local school students. It will be presented below.
On my second visit to this yard, I was lucky enough to catch the photo shoot scene (you can see it in the photo below). Yes, the power of attraction of art is great!
There are three huge figures here: a cat flying in space, an unside-down head of an astroman (or, rather a woman), and an octopus.
The octopus is actually impossible to photograph well - it is hidden by the lattice trusses of the simulators.
Dolphins, sea jellys, sea horses, cute froggie... a lot of primitive stuff is visible on the wall (but hardly goes into the photo, especially in low-res non close-up takes). I love this conseptual opposition of the deep space to the depths of the ocean. (Mankind has already defiled the earth a long time ago, and is trying to spoil the ocean too, but his hands are short for space, they do not reach it, hehe).
Below, all the photos were taken with a 50mm lens - these are numerous fragments of wall art, 50mm - does not allow you to cover the whole picture (it was shown above by a 16-35mm lens), but this is an ideal lens for subject shooting, for individual things.
You can look at and crop those few photos that I took endlessly - they contain countless amounts of art, everyone who could participate, everyone drew something of their own. Primitively, for that sincerely. That's what I like about this wall. Well, the cat and the octopus, of course - it was the work of professionals.
