On September 11, 2001, I had just started a new job as an HR manager. I was teaching a class on performance management when the door to the conference room opened and several high-level executives started passing notes to the participants in the class. When I turned around from the PowerPoint presentation, only three of the 12 participants were still left in the class.
I immediately took a short break to learn that airplanes had been hijacked and were flying into the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon in Washington, D. C. It all seemed like a bad dream and we spent the rest of the day glued to the television and comforting employees who were very upset after hearing the news and realizing that thousands had been killed.
All of the phone lines were jammed with everyone trying to reach loved ones who lived in New York. This day will forever be etched in my mind and each year on the anniversary day I think about those who lost their lives during this terror attack. What were you doing on 9/11 when you heard the news?
