I am currently studying the specialty of mixed media in the visual arts, and this semester we are already delving into the conceptualization of the works, which is why lately we have been carrying out very creative exercises that allow us to give a temporal-spatial context to the proposals that we have been devising. I recently shared with the community an exercise in which I worked on the theme of "Weightlessness", a very interesting proposal that allowed me to decontextualize a concept to create a visual work.
Actualmente estoy estudiando la especialidad de medios mixtos en las artes pl谩sticas, y en este semestre ya nos estamos adentrando en la conceptualizaci贸n de las obras, por eso 煤ltimamente estamos realizando ejercicios muy creativos que nos permiten darle un contexto temporal-espacial a las propuestas que venimos ideando, hace poco compart铆 con la comunidad un ejercicio en el que trabaje el tema de la "Ingravidez" una propuesta muy interesante que me permiti贸 descontextualizar un concepto para crear una obra pl谩stica.
This time I had to do a similar exercise, but in this context I had the freedom to choose the topic to deal with. I chose as a starting point a social issue that I experience daily, and it is about the microcosm that manifests itself in the metro (underground) of the city of Caracas, Venezuela, but this is such a broad topic that it has taken me a little time to focus all this social issue in a single word, since it covers topics such as inequality, insecurity, mediocrity, violence, decadence, among others; finally, after so much research and analysis, I managed to represent this social context from my perspective in a single word, which is "Marginality." Now I had to decontextualize this concept to create a plastic proposal. Several creative ideas have occurred to me, but little by little the proposal has been evolving. I took advantage of a bunch of old metro tickets that were recently given to me to give life to this idea.
En esta oportunidad tuve que hacer un ejercicio similar, pero en este contexto ten铆a yo la libertad de elegir el tema a tratar, eleg铆 como punto de partida un tema social que vivo a diario, y se trata del microcosmos que se manifiesta en el metro (subterr谩neo) de la ciudad de Caracas, Venezuela, pero este es un tema tan amplio que me ha tomado un poco de tiempo lograr centrar todo ese tema social en una sola palabra, ya que abarca temas como la desigualdad, la inseguridad, la mediocridad, la violencia, la decadencia, entre otros; finalmente luego de tanta investigaci贸n y an谩lisis logre representar este contexto social bajo mi perspectiva en una sola palabra que es la "Marginalidad". Ahora ten铆a que descontextualizar ese concepto para crear una propuesta pl谩stica, se me han ocurrido varias ideas creativas, pero poco a poco ha ido evolucionando la propuesta, aproveche un mont贸n de tickets del metro viejos que me regalaron hace poco para darle vida a esta idea.
I decided to assemble several tickets by joining them with staples, representing that this "Metro cosmos" (as I have called it), is a system created by the users who make a living inside the metro. I made a square for the base only with yellow tickets, but then I changed my mind, because I also had to represent inequality, so I changed the color of several tickets, some orange and others blue, trying to reflect a duality of experiences that are experienced within this public transport.
Decid铆 ensamblar varios tickets uni茅ndolos con grapas representando que ese "Metro cosmos" (como yo lo he titulado), es un sistema creado por los usuarios que hacen vida dentro del metro; realice un cuadrado para la base solo con tickets de color amarillo, pero luego cambie de opini贸n, porque tambi茅n deb铆a representar la desigualdad, as铆 que varios tickets los cambie de color para unos anaranjado y otros azules, intentando reflejar una dualidad de vivencias que se experimentan dentro de ese transporte p煤blico.
Then I assembled a cubic structure to represent that this "cosmos meter" is a square system that has space-time limitations, both for those who benefit and for the marginalized; in this cube I also reflected the duality with the same colors previously mentioned.
Luego ensamble una estructura cubica para representar que ese "metro cosmos" es un sistema cuadrado que tiene limitaciones espaciotemporales, tanto para los que se benefician, como para los marginados; en este cubo tambi茅n refleje la dualidad con los mismos colores anteriormente nombrados.
Finally, I added two ends on the sides made with copper wire that represent the hand that offers, and the other represents the hand that snatches. I placed those ends right on the colored nails of the piece, the hand that offers is in the blue zone and the one that snatches is in the orange zone, divided by the yellow stripe that should not be crossed for security reasons; With this proposal I seek to represent the microcosm that is generated within the subway and all the marginality that is reflected in the actions that one as a user experiences on a daily basis using this means of public transportation, all this in an attempt to decontextualize all the social criticism that could be explored within that "metro cosmos".
Por ultimo le agregue dos extremidades a los lados realizadas con alambre de cobre que representan la mano que ofrece, y la otra representa la mano que arrebata, esas extremidades las coloque justo en las unas de color de la pieza, la mano que ofrece esta en la zona azul y la que arrebata est谩 en la zona anaranjada, divididas por la franja amarilla que no se debe pasar por seguridad; con esta propuesta busco de representar el microcosmos que se genera dentro del metro y toda la marginalidad que se refleja en las acciones que uno como usuario experimenta en el d铆a a d铆a utilizando este medio de transporte p煤blico, todo esto en un intento por descontextualizar toda la cr铆tica social que se pudiera explorar dentro de ese "metro cosmos".
My classmates also did their exercises creating very captivating proposals that represent their research topics. Each one chose a topic that allowed them to express their internal emotions assertively, fulfilling the demands required by the exercise in question. Truly, this type of dynamics are very important to develop a more objective view when proposing an artistic proposal and allow us to have a starting point to address a social or personal issue. For this semester we have planned to do a couple more exercises that will help us continue growing in our artistic field, which is mixed media in the visual arts. Mis compa帽eros de clases tambi茅n realizaron sus ejercicios creando propuestas muy cautivadoras que representan sus temas de investigaci贸n, cada uno escogi贸 un tema que les permitiera expresar sus emociones internas de manera asertiva cumpliendo con las exigencias que requer铆a el ejercicio en cuesti贸n. De verdad que este tipo de din谩micas son muy importantes para ir desarrollando una mirada m谩s objetiva al momento de plantearnos una propuesta art铆stica y permitirnos tener un punto de partida para abordar un tema social o personal, para este semestre tenemos pautado hacer un par de ejercicios m谩s que nos ayudaran a seguir creciendo en nuestro 谩mbito art铆stico que son los medios mixtos en las artes pl谩sticas; espero que este post sea de su agrado, buenas vibras.
