In the recent sessions of my Freeciv game, the war against the Dahomeans has taken a complicated turn. During the attempt to capture the city of Santana, my forces suffered a significant tactical setback. The enemy, using a combination of mechanized infantry and alpine troops, managed to intercept and destroy all my tank units stationed near the city. This defeat was a clear reminder that despite my technological advantage, the terrain and the defensive preparation of the Dahomeans are factors that cannot be underestimated. Losing those armored divisions forced me to pause and reconsider my approach before continuing the offensive.
Instead of launching another improvised landing that might lead to more unnecessary losses, I decided to prioritize internal structure and logistics. The first step was to send engineer units across the sea to the northern continent. Their primary mission is to build a solid network of roads and railroads connecting the cities I have already conquered. In Freeciv, logistical mobility is vital; having a railway system allows me to move reinforcements and resources between fronts in a single turn, which will be a decisive advantage when I decide to strike again.
Parallel to the engineering works, I have focused the industrial power of my specialized cities on the mass production of new tank units. Caracas and other military centers are working at full capacity to replace the lost divisions. However, I am not just focusing on land power. I have started the construction of a global airport network. This infrastructure will allow me to move units quickly from my main continent to the northern war zone, bypassing the slow maritime transport and reducing the time it takes to respond to any enemy counterattack.
Currently, my strategy in the northern continent is purely defensive. I have organized the remaining units to protect the captured cities and, above all, to provide cover for the engineers while they complete the transport works. This period of reorganization is essential to ensure that the next offensive is overwhelming. My goal remains the same: to conquer as much territory as possible and eliminate the threat of the Dahomeans. By strengthening my logistics and production, I am preparing the ground for a final push that will leave no room for further setbacks.
