Hardcore Townsmen! #47 Tax Collection & Economy
Hello Hive Gamers! Today I bring you the 47th chapter of my hardcore Townsmen run. In this session, I dedicated my time entirely to managing the tax collection system and planning the future economic expansion of the village. Keeping a steady stream of income is the lifeblood of any hardcore settlement, especially when maintenance costs and military upgrades keep rising.
Currently, I have two treasury buildings up and running, staffed with townnies who walk around the city collecting taxes from the houses. However, it is a rather slow process, so to optimize it, my intention for the near future is to construct two additional treasuries and upgrade all of them to level 2. By doing this, I will have a total of 8 tax collectors roaming the streets gathering Talers automatically, but that grand project is a plan for later.
For now, I focused on manually collecting taxes from every single house to boost the treasury immediately, while scouting ideal locations for those future treasuries. Moreover, I had to keep a critical gameplay mechanic in mind: tax collectors are non-production workers. They do not manufacture goods or produce food themselves; their sole job is to run around collecting coins. This means my overall economy must be robust enough to sustain 8 extra workers (and their households) who consume resources without directly contributing to the physical supply chain.
Consequently, balancing administrative luxury with actual economic productivity is a constant challenge. If I scale up the tax collection workforce too quickly without a surplus of food and beer, the settlement will suffer. Therefore, I am pacing myself, ensuring that our farms, bakeries, and workshops are producing at maximum capacity before taking the next fiscal leap.
Nevertheless, the manual sweeps netted a very healthy profit today, leaving our coffers well-padded for the next phase of development. Step by step, we are turning this frontier town into a well-oiled financial machine. See you in the next chapter!
