Hello everyone. This is my very first post in this community, and honestly, it was also my actual first time going out to fish lol. Lately, I have developed a real interest in fishing. Even though I know absolutely nothing about the subject right now, I am determined to master this discipline and become an expert, whatever it takes.
Living in a Caribbean coastal city is definitely a big plus and luckily, my friend knows a lot about this world. Since he has the expertise I lack, I decided to join him last Tuesday for my first real session near the water.
To put it mildly, the experience was quite rough for a beginner. It turns out that casting a line is not as simple as it looks. I spent the first part of the day struggling just to throw the hook properly. To make matters worse, the intense coastal sun completely scorched my hands, and at one point, I managed to get the nylon line tangled around my own legs.
The fish also made sure to give me a proper welcome. They were fast, completely outsmarting me by snatching the bait off my hook in a single, clean movement before I could even react. Every time I thought I had a chance, I pulled up an empty line. I ended the day without catching a single thing, while my friend handled the situation with the ease of someone who has done this a thousand times.
Despite the frustration and the sunburn, I am not giving up. I took this first trip as a learning experience and already made several notes on what to do differently next time. I now have a clear list of the specific gear I need to bring, the right clothing to protect myself from the sun, and the basic techniques I need to practice to improve my casting and bait management.
Next Tuesday is the second round of this challenge, and I am heading back out there with a better plan. Since I am completely new to this and eager to improve, I would really appreciate any tips, gear recommendations, or basic advice you guys can share. I will be reading your suggestions in the comments down below.
See y'all next tuesday!
