Many years ago i had an unpopular thought about two wheels, it always seems to be mysterious how a vehicle would balance up on just two wheels in a straight line and the cyclist not falling off the bike, "how was this possible?" I always thought to myself and this brought about my phobia with bikes also to worsen the situation, yeah i couldn't even ride a single bike so, cycling was a whole mystery to me and when i see who could cycle or make some cool stunts and moves on a bike, i take them to be supernatural beings.
Well, this thoughts i had was back when i was in my tens and as a child then, i knew basically nothing about gravity, centrifugal force or physics in general.
Under this circumstance, my dad made me a promise i was never demanded for. "Son, if you do well in school this session, I'll get you a new bike" these were the words from my dad and i barely took it serious because I never really wanted a bike.
Behold one evening i was sited outside the hood and i saw my dad from a distance approaching with a brand new and fancy looking bicycle.
My eyes turned wet and bulky filled with light tears of amusement.
The lovely bicycle spent two weeks indoors all I did was wake up in the morning, run to the garage, stair at the brand new bicycle, touch it and smile alone. Sometimes i sat on it and imagine myself riding.
This ugly routine was repeated for two good weeks without me taking my bike out due to phobia, nervousness of disgracing myself in front of friends.
I was about 15 to 16 years old and i couldn't ride a bike but I had a 7 year old neighbor who went on errands with his little bike and traveling a far distance.
Shame, it was so shameful of me at this point but what i was more concerned was how i'm gonna learn i felt the age of 16 was a due age to learn how to cycle. It was like seeing a 30 year old grown up man still in a basic school. Haha.
To cut the long story into abstracts, my friends encouraged me and i finally took the bike outside for the first time and i sustained a whole lot of injury from the pedal most especially.
I was asked to sit on the bike, look forward and pressure the pedals one after the other. This was only sounding with words but making it work was a hell. The whole process and lesson i was given that day felt so odd and discouraging. This routine repeated itself for about 3 days and on the fourth day, i had already sustained more injuries than i could handle.
Sat on the bike with my 7 years old friends behind applying a little force and asking me not to look down, stick my head up and pressure the pedals one after the other. I kept doing this over and over countless number of times and at a point when i turned by back to speak to my friend who was helping me push the bike, i saw him at a very far distance behind me and then he gave me the breaking news of my life, that he hasn't really been pushing the bike all that while and i was literally on my own riding like a pro!
Hehe, you needed to see the amount of excitement that got painted to my face knowing that i actually cycled my bike all by myself unknowingly to me.
The bike journey didn't just end there anyways because there were a lot more to learn especially making turns in corners but those weren't so difficult since i could finally balance myself on two wheels.
This is a message to all potential bikers out there who were/are also having my kind of phobia for cycling, always face your fears because fear and procrastination are hindrances to your achievements. Thank you so much for finding time on this blog i hope you enjoyed it? You can tell me about your cycling experience too in the comments i would love to read too, Cheer's π₯ β€οΈ.
