Good evening Steemians!

I've been juggling the contents of this post for about a week. I've been on Steemit for just over 3 weeks roughly. And already I have found a stronger community among so many people from many places with about as varied interests and opinions as you can imagine. Compare this to the "social media" that I'm used to and Steemit takes gold in my book, hands down.

As I stated in my #introduceyourself post (link 1)

I want to [see] a platform where everyone can post about what they believe and see. And no algorithms that have a political weight influences who can see that information. I want a platform where people who disagree can converse about what they disagree about and not get angry and start name calling like I see on the "big name" platforms.

With that goal in mind, the following is what I have seen in the Steemian community since that post 10 days ago (when I seriously started paying attention to that goal and its manifestations on the platform).

I found steem.chat (a little bit before my first post but not much), set up my account and started talking to people and seeing what people liked to talk about. I followed a few of the people that I found interesting, and continued to make acquaintances on the chat. By this time I had already met some fascinating characters, suesa@suesa schrosct@schrosct, and laviniatherapist@laviniatherapist to name just a few. I spun off my first (introduceyourself) and second posts and explored others blogs to see what they talked about and their interests were. This is when I started to notice something, there are many different and sometimes opposing viewpoints that people hold here. Yet I rarely if ever have seen the angry and polarized comments that I would get on other platforms just for expressing my opinion. I started to get excited about Steemit.

The first post that seriously caught my eye was by laviniatherapist@laviniatherapist, it was her Autism Awareness post (link 2). This caught my eye because I was diagnosed with Aspergers Autism as a child and have lived with it ever since. So I decided to write about my experience with Autism (link 3), and as I partner post I posted a blurb of thought that I had one night to try and let people see through my eyes (link 4). My story about my experiences with Autism is to date my most engaged post. And I want to thank laviniatherapist@laviniatherapist for giving me the inspiration for that post.

Another entertaining character that I met on steem.chat was apsu@apsu. Most of his comments always give me a chuckle. I had been shadowing a conversation he had been having with someone about flagging but still wasn't entirely sure how the entire flagging concept worked. Not too long later though I saw his post about flagging pop up in my feed (link 5), this answered pretty much any question I had up to that point. This is when I also learned about the dangers of starting a flagging war. And was my introduction to the characters that I used to run into all the time on other platforms, except here they seem to be few and far between, and most of the community doesn't look fondly upon them.

Right around this time, I met guiltyparties@guiltyparties. If I remember correctly he answered a random question I had and introduced me to witnesses and what they do. He also has been working hard to stop phishing scams on Steemit and wrote up a great post with warnings about what types of sites to avoid so you don't lose your account. (link 6)

guiltyparties@guiltyparties also invited me to the Pimp Your Post Thursday Discord server after reading my post about my experience with Autism. Complementing my writing and content as being something that would be perfect for the server. Which I honestly thought was not all that good in from a writing standpoint.

One thing that seems to have always gotten me on peoples bad sides on other social media platforms is my faith in Jesus. Yes, I am a Christian. On other platforms, anything I say about my faith or a belief/opinion I have related to that faith would receive angry comments trying to attack my faith as immature or uneducated.

Here on steemit I have found just the opposite. People accept who you are, as long as you are respectful of others. People look at your entire message in something and interact with that. Yes when a friendly debate begins, differences in faiths/beliefs might be brought up as debate points. But I have yet to see people who have my respect try and tear apart another post or comment based on one point.

On top of this community trait that I find fascinating the Steemit platform is built on the Steem blockchain. Which means no company controlling everything, redundancy in the functionality of the system, a certain extent of possible anonymity, just to name a few things. And I'm still a relative "noob" when it comes to platform details.

I started to get involved more, try to understand how things worked and why they worked that way. And I found another fascinating post, this time from goldmatters@goldmatters, a Pocket Dump Challenge! (link 7) In all honesty, the rewards alone caught my attention as they could help jumpstart my interaction here. But I'm also curious as to what makes it into everyone's Every Day Carry (EDC) loadout and what things sneak in throughout the day. And it gave me an avenue to show part of who I am to steemit. So I submitted my Pocket Dump post to goldmatters@goldmatters. (link 8) And we are all still waiting to hear the results.

This got me thinking about my profile pic (or rather what should be in that void). And I have to say the Pocket Dump finally gave me the idea, but I couldn't find something online that was close to what I had in mind. So I threw a line into chat asking if anyone knew of any artists on steem who would be interested in doing a custom piece. suesa@suesa suggested I talk to steemitadventure@steemitadventure. All I will say for the time being is that there is something in the works and I can't wait to see the results!

This is just the begging of my time on Steemit. I wasn't even able to scratch the surface of all the interactions that I've had and all the people I've met. I always enjoy it!

I know this is long, and I started rambling a bit. But that's who I am. Everyone's unique traits lend to making Steemit the awesome platform that it is. I hope to watch steemit grow, out of the beta stage and full-blown and watch the community flourish. The possibilities are almost endless.

Thank you everyone! I hope you enjoyed the read, please feel free to leave any thoughts or comments. God bless!
