Jacob and I have been married for five years and we have lived to love each other and the love kept growing each day but there is something missing between us which is children. Jacob never bothered about it but as a woman, I want a child who I can talk with when I am always alone at home. He insisted I become a full house wife so I don't stress myself while he goes out to work for us. I love Jacob and I believe he does too because of how he has always praised me each day. He never stopped showering me with gifts and would be proud to show me off to his friends and family.
Nothing was wrong with us medically because I forced my husband to go for a test which he did just to please me. After two years of being married, his family especially his mum kept disturbing us to give her grandchildren. It got to a point, his mother taught I was the one with problem but to avoid any further misunderstanding, Jacob and I relocated to Abuja so no one would disturb us concerning children.
Jacob would always use his work as an excuse and he stopped touching me again. There was a day I reminded him of how he had wanted children during our courtship but his response was this:
"Babe, don't worry yourself. I am not complaining and besides, we need to work and prepare something for our children. We need to train and give them the best upbringing. So, pls do not raise this issue again for now. When the time comes, we would have our own babies"
It kept on and on like that. We have been to Mr and Mrs Williams' naming ceremony twice but Jacob wasn't bothered about that. All he cares about is his work. I kept praying to God to touch him but I think God is still waiting. Lest I forget, Mr and Mrs Williams are our family friend for a long time.
One day I went to the supermarket to get some things when I bumped into Ade. Ade was one of my toasters in the University before we graduated. We lost contact then and I never heard of him again until today when we saw at the supermarket.
I was surprised to see him again and we both embraced each other. One thing I love about Ade is that he is always sensitive and curious to get answers.
Wow! Look at you Joyce, you have added weight.
He saw the ring on my left finger and was amazed that I got married so quickly
What? When did you get married? Why didn't you wait for me? You know we lost contact then and my Dad had to send me abroad to complete my education after we graduated. I searched for you everywhere even on social medias but all was in vain.
I came back to Nigeria to settle down and perhaps luck may bring you to me so we could settle down. Look at you now, already married.
I could see his teary eyes and had pity on him. Ade has been a nice guy to me since my University days and I never lacked anything. I just didn't accept his proposal then because of his behaviors. I never knew he was that serious to date me then.
All I could say to him was "God will bring the one for you"
We exchanged contact while I told him I had to run home to prepare something for Jacob.
We started chatting and he keeps calling me everyday. He became my companion whenever Jacob leaves for work. Jacob hasn't yet touched me. He would always rush for the office in the morning and comes back home late at night giving the excuse of being tired. Still, he never stops caring for me as a good husband he is.
After three months of talking with Ade on phone, he begged I should come and know his place. I didn't want to accept his invitation because I was being careful as a married woman especially not to be seen by people so they don't tell my husband anything.
After so much pestering, I decided to pay him a visit. I could sense Ade wants me back but it's impossible for me because of Jacob. I got to his house and he was happy to see me. We both talked about the past and how he ended a year's relationship with his girlfriend because she cheated on him.
Ade gave me wine to drink which I drank. Little did I know he has added sleeping pills into it. I didn't know until the next day when I saw myself on the bed with him naked. I couldn't believe what has happened. I checked my phone and met seventeen missed calls from Jacob.
"Oh my God! Ade, what did you do? Is it a crime to come to your house? Why did you do this?"
Ade was on his knees begging me telling me he didn't know what came over him.
I dressed up and immediately went home. Before then, I have called my friend to cover me up which I explained everything to her. She was so angry and wanted to call the police on Ade but I begged her not to escalate the matter because Jacob would eventually know what was going on.
Everything was going fine until after three weeks when I found out something strange happening to me. I went to the hospital and the doctor confirmed I was three weeks pregnant.
I couldn't keep back my tears because I already knew who owned the pregnancy. It's Ade
The doctor didn't understand me and kept saying "Madam, it's good news"
I went home and everything about me changed. Jacob noticed and wanted to know what was wrong but I kept faking smiles for him.
One night, we were in bed together when I couldn't sleep, I sat on the bed thinking about the pregnancy.
I still love Jacob. What do I tell him? How do I explain it to him? How do I make him believe I didn't do it intentionally? How do I explain to him that I was drugged?
That night, Jacob and I had sex for the first time in five years. What came over him is what I didn't know.
I became so ashamed of myself for allowing him sleep with me when I am carrying another man's child but I do not have a choice. I think this is the best time for me to make him responsible for my pregnancy.
This is a secret I would have to keep for life and of course, I wouldn't tell Ade anything so he doesn't bring up another issue of wanting his baby.
I deleted Ade's number immediately and blocked him so he doesn't get to reach me.
The End
