Happy Easter to the #Ecotrain community and I wish us more of the season. It has been raining since I returned back from Church and as soon as I ate my lunch, I slept and woke up after three hours....Oh! What a long time, but I do need it. My brain got recharged and refreshed and so, I am engaging tonight.
It's a new week for the QOTW in the community and this moment is about us talking about Habit, both the good ones we are proud of and the bad ones that make us suck and wish to eradicate.
Habits are actions we repeatedly perform or are done on a regular basis. Habit only turns addiction when it has become part of us and can't do without it. There are actions we perform unconsciously because it has been part of us and cannot be taken from us unless we want to quit, especially with the bad ones because they are causing damage to our system and lives.
There are the good habits we have developed as we continuously do them and they are working perfectly in us as they keep us balanced and going in our daily lives. Good habits like reading a book before sleeping, drinking water early in the morning before anything else, exercising, speaking positively and the likes. When we practice these habits, they improve our development and I consider them the best. So, once we repeatedly do these, it is an addiction that cannot be taken away from us.
There are also the bad habits that have become addictive and no matter what anyone says or does, there will not be any changes unless we have decided to stop them which of course can be hard to stop unless with gradual steps in eliminating them. One of the first steps to stop a bad habit is being aware of the damage it has caused to us and willingness to put a stop to it. Bad habits like nose picking, waking up late, procrastination, laziness, sitting at the screen for a long time, smoking and drinking alcohol etc.
Having said all these, what are my good habits and bad habits?
Drinking water early in the morning: I am not the kind of person who drinks water first thing in the morning before but this year, I developed myself in drinking when I wake up and it has been part of me ever since then.
Reading books: I also developed this habit this year after I graduated from the University when I saw the wonders it has done to those who love reading. It isn't that I don't read but I find it boring after a few minutes of picking it up and would not finish a book for months but now, I gave myself a challenge to finish a number of books before the end of the year and I am constantly reading daily to improve myself too. I now read every night or most times during the day when I have the time.
Brushing my teeth twice a day: Who would have thought I would brush my teeth twice a day? My sister actually helped me with this. I went to visit her last year in December and she noticed I only brush once and she told me the benefit of brushing twice especially before going to bed and ever since then, it has been a habit for me till last night which will continue like that.
Writing: I love writing and since I was introduced to a platform in 2016, I have come to love and enjoy writing and there's no day I don't write articles apart from the notes I write while in school. This is a reason I have always been active on platforms where I write daily. I also write when an idea or inspiration comes.
Now, let's talk about my bad habit that has been an addiction but willing to change.
Negative thoughts: I am always fond of thinking negatively and not just any, but the thought of bad things happening and I am the hero trying to save others. Many times, I have thought of a Lion coming from the forest to attack us and I would be the one to fight and kill it 馃槀馃槀
In fact I still had the thought yesterday while cleaning the house after my siblings had left for the farm. I thought of this same lion to come out, and some times, I thought of thieves to attack us and would have planned how to escape and kill them with either attacking with a knife or pouring hot water on them 馃槄馃槄 This has become an habit every day, even though I rebuke such spirit anytime it appears in my mind. I hope to stop it completely.
Addicted to Phone: I don't know if I should consider it as a bad habit but it becomes one if you are constantly on it and affecting other activities in your life. I am always on the phone every moment and it is until I sleep off or my battery is dead, you will not see me with my phone. I have burnt foods, missed some events and arrived late because of this phone. Once I am glued to it, no matter what you discussed with me, I won't concentrate unless I put the phone down to give you my undivided attention and most times, I still find myself pressing it.
I am too addicted to looking at the screen because of that and I am trying to minimize it especially because of my eyes so I don't lose them at a younger age.
Eating late at night: Though this one has stopped early this year but then, I do eat at 11pm or many times at 12am when I was living with my parents even up till I entered school. It made me lazy in cooking and this year, I was watching my weight and wanted to reduce my tummy when I gave myself time to eat at night and once it is 6pm, I won't eat anything else.
These are the good and bad habits I have and working on improving myself on the bad habits.
Thanks for reading.
