The center of our solar system and the closest star to Earth is the Sun. It is a huge, brilliant ball of hot gases mostly composed of hydrogen and helium. Its gravity keeps the planets, moons, and other things in orbit, so preserving the unity of our solar system.
Through a process known as nuclear fusion, where hydrogen atoms merge to generate helium, the Sun generates light and heat. Releasing an amazing volume of energy, this process moves across space and arrives on Earth as sunshine. Life on our earth would not be possible without the Sun. Its heat helps Earth's temperature just perfect for plants, animals, and people to live.
Photosynthesis, the process plants use to produce food, depends on sunlight as well. This is consistent with all life on Earth since plants provide oxygen and food for people and animals.
Expected to keep shining for another 5 billion years before it ultimately becomes a red dwarf, the Sun is estimated to be 4.6 billion years old. Though the Sun is essential to human life, but it could also be harmful.
Too much closer to the sun radiation can harm eyes and skin, hence wearing sunglasses and sunscreen when outside is imperative.
For millennia, the Sun has motivated mythology, art, and culture in addition to being a scientific marvel. Recognizing its power over life, many early civilizations honored it as a god.
In conclusion
The Sun is more than just a brilliant object in the sky. This is the reason Earth is alive, it is a source of energy, and a reminder of our place in the whole universe.
