I went to Chaska Recreation Center to walk laps with my wife ducksaplenty@ducksaplenty and ran into her sister jayna@jayna. They talked while walking briskly together; I listened to Pandora with earbuds while loping along. While there, they probably got a thousand more steps than I did.

But I got plenty of exercise later. We’re supposed to get about six inches of snow tonight so I cleared a bunch of ice that had accumulated along the stone wall by our driveway. The joys of living in Minnesota.

I’ve been slowly building a file of snippets of conversations I’ve overheard. Maybe I’d do a post of them. Or use some as seeds for short stories. Many are strange, but the one I overheard today while grocery shopping is stranger than most. A sixty-ish woman speaking to her husband:

I don’t like olives in milk.

Uh, say what? As opposed to everyone else who does like olives in milk? In what context would a sentence like that fit other than an avant-garde absurdist play?
