Without a doubt we all know social media has come a long way and that without it, a lot of things won’t be possible today.
On today’s featured content, we were asked to give two reasons why we feel social media is a good thing and two reasons why we feel it’s a bad thing but the truth is that when it comes to a topic like this, there are more than two things we would love to say here but rules are rules right?
Just like Bruno-Kema said, social media is a double edged sword which has its good and bad. The good part being that ever since the invention of social media, it has become so easy to communicate with not just your loved ones but strangers too. I’ve seen multiple cases of two strangers who ends up getting married after one of them sent the other a Facebook message or a tweet. So social media has made that possible. These days we no have to walk around with a radio set trying to get the news when we could literally just come online and get all of the updates.
Another good thing about social media is that it brought a new way for people to earn money and a good example of that is Hive. I meet new people, make new friends and still make money during the whole process, all of this wouldn’t be possible if it wasn’t for social media and the same goes for Twitter influencers or Instagram models, all of which make their money from their page by doing their PR work or whatever it is they do.
The two things I don’t like about social media are quite simple. The number one on my list are the rubbish trends. TikTok trends that most people engage in just because they want to be popular and maybe get more followers. Most people don’t even realize how much social media has influenced them and that is why some of them end up living the fake life online just because they want to give people (who are total strangers by the way) the impression that they are living “the life”. So I guess the bad influence of social media is the one thing I hate the most about it.
Another thing I hate is the fraudulent activities that social media brought with it. Before social media, no one knew anything about any Nigerian prince with large inheritance somewhere in his village but then Facebook came around and that was the beginning of bad name for the country Nigeria and it’s honest working citizens because some bad roots decided to exploit some people for their own benefits.
So yeah, there you have it. The two things I love and hate about social media.
