Few days ago I had written an article about telling lies and yesterday, I had told us a story about a lady at my hostel who made some horrible shawarma for I and my friends.
Well, later that night, she had individually asked those friends of mine if the shawarma was good. I had gone inside and stayed in all through the night last night, so she couldn't ask me because she didn't see me.
Fast forward to this morning and I'm with my friends and they tell me of how she had asked them how good the shawarma was, and according to the boys, they didn't want to break her heart or her spirit, so they had no choice but to lie to her....they told her it was nice.
Funny enough, when I wrote that article about telling lies, I had said that although it is a good thing to always tell the truth, there are times where telling the truth doesn't feel appropriate due to how much damage that truth could cause at that moment.
But if there's one thing thing this whole situation has taught me, it is that telling the truth is most times the best thing to do because the moment you tell a lie, you have to keep on telling lies until you're caught, or in this case, until the lady finds out in a much more embarrassing way that her shawarma was nothing to write home about.
And I say that because after the boys had lied to make her feel better, they probably must have overdone it because she went ahead to promise that she was going to make another one soon. According to her, her sister's birthday is around the corner and she plans on making shawarma for everyone. So now, not only will the five of us have to go through that experience all over again, almost everyone at the hostel will.
And what's even more sad is that there are people far more blunt and most definitely rude over here and I know without a doubt that the moment they taste it and find out it's trash, they will tell her immediately. The only problem is they might not be gentle with their words and she might feel hurt.
Now I do have the power to stop all of this from happening by going to tell her the truth.. Will I do it? I honestly don't know if I have that much power in me to honestly tell her how terrible that whole thing was.
I will try, but if I can't, I will just have to avoid her until her sister's birthday.. That's bad I know, but I'm scared of saying the truth to her face because it will break her... Although the way I see it, it's either I break her heart and she forgives me later, or someone else does in a far more embarrassing way.
