You know how they say that sometimes it's the little things that matter? I got that experience this evening.
For the past few days, my life has somewhat been on autopilot. I get up very early in the morning, brush my teeth, and have my bath, and then I leave home, and when I come back in the evening, I just have my bath, eat, and sleep.
It's been pretty straightforward and boring because I don't do a lot of talking where I go, simply because I know no one there and have no friends there, and I'm usually the kind of guy who will always shut up and observe whenever I find myself in the midst of strangers. I mostly only speak when spoken to or when absolutely necessary.
Well today I got up this morning not feeling great, so I decided that instead of doing the same thing that I've been doing for the past few days, I was going to take a day off today and just look after myself. Even though “looking after myself” just means sitting inside all day and just resting or lazing about.
Well I did all of that, and when the time got to 7:30pm, I was going to just call it a day and go to bed, but for some reason I decided to go downstairs and sit with some boys there, and trust me when I say that I'm glad I did that.
And I say that because I went from not talking to anyone physically for the past few days to just having really fun conversations with my neighbors. Honestly, if anyone had told me that I would miss something like this, I wouldn't believe them. I didn't even know I missed having these conversations until I had them this evening.
I spent about an hour with them just talking and having a laugh, and by the time I had to go back upstairs to my room, I felt a lot better than how I've been feeling throughout the whole of today. It made me realize that this new routine that I had been following for the past few days was making my life feel like a sad one because it was just me in it.
But I feel better now, and hopefully I get to have more moments like this where I get to feel this good.
