Hello there, this is my entry to the new "Battle Mage Secret Weekly Challenge!". If you want to participate or know more about the challenge, click here. There are still a few days left to enter this challenge. This week we have to formulate a strategy with BROKEN ARROWS ruleset.
RULESET: BROKEN ARROWS
With the Broken Arrows ruleset, monsters with ranged attacks cannot be used.
The broken Arrows ruleset is very simple and easy to understand as monsters with ranged attacks cannot be used. It has always been a common appearance in my battles and I have a ton of experience with it. Anyways, I like the ranged attackers the least of all attack types. It has been the case since the start. Let's see how we can utilize this ruleset to our advantage in battles. But first, let's look at my lineup.
My Lineup
This is my lineup for the battle
This was a 99-mana battle so I could choose any units without worrying about the mana cost. This battle had 3 rulesets:
Equal Opportunity - All Monsters have the Opportunity ability.
Earthquake - Non-flying monsters take 2 Melee damage at the end of each round.
Broken Arrows - Ranged attack Monsters may not be used in battles.
These were somewhat restrictive and we would be punished for not using Flying Monsters in our lineup. All monsters having the opportunity ability will mean the positions of the units will matter less but still a powerful tank is very important.
Only two elements were active: water and life. So, I went with Life splinter and used a powerful summoner called Chanseus the Great. It had the ability to resurrect one monster, it can also repair armour and heal the backline monster each round.
I used the Kralus as my tank in this battle. It had 12 hp and came with 5 armour. Also, it had the Flying ability which made it a perfect choice for me in this battle. Its Immunity ability also makes it immune to any negative status effects and it will take much longer to eliminate this. Since I had infinite mana in this battle I can use it without worrying about its high cost.
In the next position, I used another flying unit, the Luminous Eagle. It also had reach ability but wouldn't have mattered as every monster have the opportunity ability as well. I had a level 4 unit which deals 3 Melee damage with 3 speeds.
High Priest Darius came in the third position, it was a powerful mage dealing 3 magic attacks and came with a very useful resurrect ability which can bring back one dead unit with 1 hp to the field. It costs 10 mana but I could easily afford this here.
In the next position, I used Bila the Radiant, she is another powerful mage who dealt 3 magic attacks and had the Divine Shield ability which can protect it with the first attack. It also came with another powerful Life Leech ability, this is one of my favourite abilities in the game and compensated for its relatively low health.
In the next position, I used the Light Elemental. I used it for its Flying ability but it also dealt powerful magic attacks. Having said that, now I feel like I could have used a better unit here because its health is too low in this battle, especially with everyone having opportunity ability.
Last but not least was Djinn Renova it was yet another powerful mage dealing 3 magic attacks with good speed. And it came with an interesting ability called Strengthen that increased the health of every friendly monster in my lineup.
Now that my lineup was set let's talk about my strategy for this game.
My Strategy
My strategy was simple this time, I had an infinite mana cap, so I used a couple of strong tanks at the front each with Flying ability so they won't take the earthquake damage after each round.
My attack comprises mostly of mages who dealt heavy magic damage and can take down even the strongest of tanks easily. The battle was very restrictive as it allowed only two elements to be used and only melee and magic attackers so we were not spoilt for choices.
I used a powerful summoner which came with Triage and Resurrect abilities that helped my team stay there for longer.
I will share my battle here, which I have uploaded to YouTube. Battle Link
Round 1
My opponent used Grandmaster Rathe as their summoner which gave extra armour and Void Armor ability to all the monsters, it was an okay choice from them. But they used a weak tank at the front of the lineup.
In this round, my Light Elemental died twice and resurrected twice back up...lol. Their time mage got eliminated in this round which was a huge bonus for me as its slow debuff got removed now and my monsters got back to their original speed.
Round 2
Round 2 was a nightmare for my opponent and we saw the demise of their tank while my Kralus at the front was doing great. But my Djinn Renova also got destroyed and after some time one of their important mages got eliminated. This tipped the scale in my team's favour.
Round 3 & 4
Round 3 was moving but now my opponent had no unit with Flying ability and they were getting destroyed by earthquake damage. By the end of this round, we saw a deadly earthquake hit taking down two of the last three units. Now only the Time Meddler was left without any armour and little health.
It was an easy job for my units and I got a comfortable win in the end.
Conclusion
I love the Broken Arrows rulesets as ranged attackers are my favourite type of attack in this game. I could easily get by with only Melee and Magic attackers and that's the way I have built my deck.
I got this ruleset multiple times a day and I am not complaining xD. I had fun playing with this always. Let me know what are your thoughts and which attack type you like the most, if any.
