Money Talks is the motto here at Steemit, and shit walks I guess. I know when I was a young rebel jedi, my stepdad used to say it all the time, "Money talks and shit walks." But as a rebel I still wonder why money should define value and quality .. or rather I should just say flat out, it doesn't. When posts are rewarded the value goes up in the system here at Steemit, but what's important is highly subjective. That's one of my problems as a minnow, my interests tend to be obscure. It used to be, young fellers, back in the day before AOL that being into obscure shit made you cool, you was alternative. But now, along with almost everything you can imagine, our big data era is swallowing everything and turning it into ones and twos. There is no alternative culture anymore, or if there is its not on the internet. The medium is the message and this medium levels everything .
I dunno when I see @haejin and @grumpycat gaming the system it makes me wonder if content is really what Steemit is about. I know the witnesses want to keep it going successfully, but is @tjkirk an example of success? Anyone can find examples of excessive politically correct mindsets and make fun of them, and I know TJ is a successful podcaster but if he's "liberal," why is he playing the blame the victim or snowflake/cuck alt-right game? See the issue here is that what is outrageous and provocative superficially gets quick attention and a big pay out, it attracts Steem, but that doesnt mean it has any quality, it just means the provocateur is good at pressing hot-button issues like masculine identity and alpha/beta bullshit. The only reason that is a hot button issue on the internet is because teenagers and young adults are the majority online, so we're all reduced to adolescent confusion over self identity. Isn't it time to leave high school?
@adsactly gives some good advice on writing a successful blog, but I keep wondering isnt it really more about learning how to allocate Steem and use voting bots? I mean does the content matter really, in a world full of right wing punk rock wannabes screaming for attention, I mean it seems we are still rebels without a clue. You grow up, you get older, you have kids, you settle down, and like that sticker says above, its over man, you will never be famous or rich. Hey, maybe, but if I can just game the crypto scene I will show the world. Money for nothing and the chicks for free. Oops was that sexist? :)
Cultural production always faces this problem, the audience creates a lowest-common denominator of what sells and we have to adapt to their needs. It's not that the bar is set high, it's rather that it's set low. So being a successful blogger or artist or writer is not like being a pole vaulter. We are done with the age of genius. No rather its all "how low can you go", we're playing limbo on the beach. Its an age of midgets. Some dudes and dudettes just walk right under the bar, no problem.
