I am in love with this new non profit company. A friends posted the below video on Facebook a while back and I can't get enough. Below is a group of school children form the St Willbrord Elementary school in Chateauquay, Quebec. They were given a chance to express themselves in a wonderful creative way.
Who are these wonderful people and what do they do? N'we Jinan Artists have several professionals in the music and production industry involved in this project. They travel to different remote schools across Canada and US and work with local schools. According the N'we Jinan Artist website they come to these schools, help the children create/ write songs and then they produce them. As you can see above some of these songs are also put into a music video for the world to enjoy.
These songs are beautiful and inspiring, bringing a focus on what the kids are feeling and seeing in their world. Not only do they get to express who they are, but what they want in the world. It helps these kids with their self confidence and brings out their creative side, let alone giving them new skills that they may not have been given a chance to learned.
If you also notice that these videos are also multilingual. This video featured English, French and Mohawk. Depending on where in Canada and US N'we Jinan goes will depend on what First Nations language is featured. I love this. This is a great way to expose languages that are in danger of being lost.
The talents of these young people are so inspiring and brings warmth of the heart knowing that they are being heard. I hope that this is part of the big step to bring more First Nations voices heard as they are just as part of our countries (Canada and US ) as the many immigrates who came over.
