Visit Spain - Muchavista

During our summer vacation in Spain, we wanted to make the most out of every day, especially since we were staying so close to the coast in the Alicante region.

Durante as nossas férias de verão em Espanha, quisemos aproveitar cada dia ao máximo, especialmente porque estávamos alojados tão perto da costa, na região de Alicante.

One of the days that stands out most in my memory was the day we decided to explore Muchavista Beach, which is located in the area of El Campello. We had heard good things about it, but we really didn’t expect the experience to be as relaxing and family-friendly as it turned out to be.

What made this trip special was not only the beach but also a spontaneous visit to a playground that completely delighted our son. It all started with a short tram ride, a bit of planning around the heat and a lot of fun under the Spanish sun.

Um dos dias que mais me marcou foi o dia em que decidimos explorar a Praia de Muchavista, situada na região de El Campello. Tínhamos ouvido falar muito bem dela, mas realmente não esperávamos que a experiência fosse tão relaxante e familiar como acabou por ser.

O que tornou esta viagem especial não foi apenas a praia, mas também uma visita espontânea a um parque infantil que encantou completamente o nosso filho. Tudo começou com um pequeno passeio de elétrico, um pouco de planeamento para lidar com o calor e muita diversão sob o sol espanhol.

We were staying in a quiet residential neighborhood with great access to public transport, and the tram system in the Alicante area is truly fantastic. We had used it a few times already, but on this particular morning, we set out with a clear plan, take the tram to Muchavista, spend some time at the beach, grab an ice cream and return before the hottest part of the day. Of course, things don't always go exactly as planned when you have a child, but sometimes those changes are for the better.

Estávamos alojados num bairro residencial tranquilo, com ótimo acesso a transportes públicos, e o sistema de elétricos na região de Alicante é realmente fantástico. Já o tínhamos utilizado algumas vezes, mas nessa manhã em particular partimos com um plano claro: apanhar o eléctrico até Muchavista, passar algum tempo na praia, comer um gelado e regressar antes da hora mais quente do dia. É claro que as coisas nem sempre correm exatamente como planeado quando se tem um filho, mas, por vezes, estas mudanças são para melhor.

That morning, the heat was already making itself known. By 10.30 AM, the temperature had climbed to 31ºC, and we knew it was only going to get hotter. We packed everything we needed, towels, sunscreen, hats, water, snacks, a change of clothes for our son and beach toys.

The goal was to be prepared for a few hours by the sea without needing to head back early. We walked to the tram station near our apartment, which was only a few minutes away. As always, the tram arrived right on time and we boarded without any hassle.

I really have to say that the tram in Alicante is one of the best public transportation systems we have used in Europe, it's clean, reliable and very easy to navigate.

Naquela manhã, o calor já se fazia sentir. Às 10h30, a temperatura já tinha subido para os 31°C, e sabíamos que só iria piorar. Levamos tudo o que precisávamos toalhas, protetor solar, chapéus, água, snacks, uma muda de roupa para o nosso filho e brinquedos de praia.

O objetivo era estarmos preparados para umas horas à beira-mar sem termos de regressar cedo. Caminhámos até à estação de elétrico perto do nosso apartamento, que ficava a apenas alguns minutos de distância. Como sempre, o eléctrico chegou na hora certa e embarcámos sem problemas.

Preciso mesmo de dizer que o eléctrico em Alicante é um dos melhores sistemas de transportes públicos que já utilizámos na Europa: é limpo, fiável e muito fácil de utilizar.

The ride to Muchavista was quick, only around 5 min and along the way, we could see glimpses of the coastline through the tram windows. As soon as we arrived at our stop and stepped off the tram, we were greeted by a light sea breeze and that unmistakable scent of salt in the air.

Despite the heat, the proximity to the beach made everything feel lighter. Muchavista has this calming atmosphere, less touristy than other spots like Postiguet Beach in central Alicante and it immediately felt like a perfect place for families.

A viagem até Muchavista foi rápida, apenas cerca de 5 min, e ao longo do caminho, pudemos avistar a linha de costa através das janelas do elétrico. Assim que chegámos ao nosso ponto e descemos, fomos recebidos por uma ligeira brisa marinha e aquele inconfundível cheiro a sal no ar.

Apesar do calor, a proximidade da praia tornou tudo mais leve. Muchavista tem um ambiente tranquilo, menos turístico do que outros locais como a Praia de Postiguet, no centro de Alicante, e pareceu-nos imediatamente um local perfeito para famílias.

We started walking toward the beach, enjoying the palm trees that lined the promenade and the sound of the waves in the distance. But just before we reached the sand, our son stopped in his tracks.

There, right in front of us, was a colorful and inviting playground. His eyes lit up and before we could even say anything, he was running toward it, full of excitement. Any plans we had of heading straight to the beach were instantly postponed. When you're traveling with kids, sometimes you just have to follow their lead.

The playground, officially called Parque Infantil de Muchavista, turned out to be a gem. We stayed there for about 40 min, watching our son climb and laugh, interacting with a couple of local kids, while we took a break on a nearby bench. It felt like such a simple joy but also one of those perfect parenting momentseeing your child truly happy and engaged.

O parque infantil, oficialmente chamado Parque Infantil de Muchavista, revelou-se uma jóia. Ficámos ali cerca de 40 min, a observar o nosso filho a escalar e a rir, interagindo com algumas crianças locais, enquanto fazíamos uma pausa num banco próximo. Parecia uma alegria tão simples, mas também um daqueles momentos perfeitos para os pais: ver o seu filho verdadeiramente feliz e empenhado.

If you're visiting the Alicante area and want to experience a peaceful and family-friendly beach day, I highly recommend Muchavista Beach and the playground nearby. It's easy to reach by tram, not as crowded as some of the central beaches, and offers a perfect combination of play and relaxation. Whether you have kids or not, the atmosphere is welcoming and calm, making it a great destination for anyone who wants to enjoy the sea without stress.

Spain has a special way of turning ordinary days into cherished memories and this little trip to El Campello and Muchavista is one we will talk about for a long time.

Travel doesn't always have to be about ticking off major landmarks or filling the day with activities. Sometimes, the best days are the ones that unfold naturally, with just a bit of curiosity and an open heart.

Se estiver a visitar a região de Alicante e quiser passar um dia de praia tranquilo e em família, recomendo vivamente a Praia de Muchavista e o parque infantil nas proximidades. É fácil de chegar de elétrico, não é tão movimentada como algumas das praias centrais e oferece uma combinação perfeita de diversão e relaxamento. Com ou sem filhos, o ambiente é acolhedor e tranquilo, sendo um ótimo destino para quem quer desfrutar do mar sem stress.

Espanha tem uma forma especial de transformar dias comuns em memórias queridas, e esta pequena viagem a El Campello e Muchavista é uma das que falaremos durante muito tempo.

Viajar não tem de ser sempre apenas visitar os principais pontos turísticos ou preencher o dia com atividades. Por vezes, os melhores dias são aqueles que se desenrolam naturalmente, com apenas um pouco de curiosidade e um coração aberto.
