Visit Spain - Alicante 2

After spending a peaceful morning exploring the heart of Alicante from Luceros to El Carrer dels Bolets, Parc Portal d'Elx, and the famous Passeig Esplanada d'Espanya, we decided to continue our walk and discover more of the city in the afternoon. The sun was higher, the streets were busier, and Alicante’s charm revealed itself in new ways. While the morning gave us a calm introduction to the city, the afternoon showed us a more vibrant, lively side full of history, architecture and beautiful views.

Depois de passarmos uma manhã tranquila a explorar o coração de Alicante, de Luceros a El Carrer dels Bolets, passando pelo Parc Portal d'Elx e pelo famoso Passeig Esplanada d'Espanya, decidimos continuar a nossa caminhada e descobrir mais da cidade à tarde. O sol estava mais alto, as ruas mais movimentadas e o encanto de Alicante revelava-se de novas formas. Enquanto a manhã nos proporcionou uma introdução tranquila à cidade, a tarde mostrou-nos um lado mais vibrante e animado, repleto de história, arquitetura e belas vistas.

This part of our adventure took us through some of Alicante's most iconic spots, the elegant Casa Carbonell, the Queen's Staircase with its wonderful views of the marina and the castle, the relaxing Playa del Postiguet, the impressive City Hall and finally a comfortable TRAM ride back to our accommodation.

Esta parte da nossa aventura levou-nos a alguns dos lugares mais emblemáticos de Alicante: a elegante Casa Carbonell, a Escadaria da Rainha com as suas maravilhosas vistas da marina e do castelo, a relaxante Playa del Postiguet, a impressionante Câmara Municipal e, finalmente, uma confortável viagem de BONDE de volta ao nosso alojamento.

As we walked closer to the waterfront, one of the buildings immediately caught our attention Casa Carbonell. This building is impossible to miss if you are walking along the Esplanada. With its grand architecture, elegant domes and white façade, it stands as a symbol of Alicante's history and prosperity.

The building has a strong presence, almost like it's watching over the promenade and welcoming everyone who passes by. My family and I stopped for a while to take photos and admire the details. The balconies with their wrought-iron railings, the tall windows and the symmetry of the structure all highlight the elegance of Mediterranean architecture.

À medida que nos aproximávamos da marginal, um dos edifícios chamou-nos imediatamente a atenção a Casa Carbonell. É impossível não reparar neste edifício ao caminhar pela Esplanada. Com a sua arquitetura imponente, cúpulas elegantes e fachada branca, destaca-se como um símbolo da história e da prosperidade de Alicante.

O edifício tem uma presença marcante, quase como se vigiasse o passeio e acolhesse todos os que passam. Eu e a minha família parámos um pouco para tirar fotos e admirar os detalhes. As varandas com as suas grades de ferro forjado, as janelas altas e a simetria da estrutura realçam a elegância da arquitetura mediterrânica.

Just a short walk from the city center, we reached Playa del Postiguet. This beach is one of Alicante's treasures, located right next to the old town and the marina.

When we arrived, we were welcomed by the sight of golden sand stretching along the coast and the gentle waves of the Mediterranean Sea. The beach was lively, with families, groups of friends, and tourists enjoying the sun.

A uma curta caminhada do centro da cidade, chegamos à Playa del Postiguet. Esta praia é um dos tesouros de Alicante, localizada mesmo ao lado do centro histórico e da marina.

Quando chegámos, fomos recebidos pela vista da areia dourada que se estendia ao longo da costa e pelas ondas suaves do Mar Mediterrâneo. A praia estava animada, com famílias, grupos de amigos e turistas a aproveitar o sol.

The Mediterranean sparkled under the sunlight, and the breeze from the sea was refreshing. It was one of those moments when you feel both relaxed and inspired, looking at the perfect combination of urban life and natural beauty.

My son was excited, pointing at boats and trying to count them, while we adults appreciated the calmness and the beauty of the city stretching out in front of us.

O Mediterrâneo brilhava sob o sol, e a brisa do mar era refrescante. Foi um daqueles momentos em que nos sentimos relaxados e inspirados, contemplando a combinação perfeita entre a vida urbana e a beleza natural.

O meu filho estava entusiasmado, apontando para os barcos e tentando contá-los, enquanto nós, adultos, apreciávamos a tranquilidade e a beleza da cidade que se estendia à nossa frente.

We decided to walk back towards the center and pass by Alicante City Hall, known as Ayuntamiento de Alicante. This building is one of the most important landmarks in the city. Its Baroque façade is impressive, with tall towers and elegant decorations that reflect the city's history and importance.

Standing in front of the City Hall, I was struck by its grandeur. It is not only an administrative building but also a piece of art that represents Alicante's past.

We took some time to admire the details on the façade, the statues, and the overall design. Many people were sitting nearby, enjoying the atmosphere of the square. It felt like a place where history, politics, and daily life come together.

Decidimos caminhar de volta ao centro e passar pela Câmara Municipal de Alicante, conhecida como Ayuntamiento de Alicante. Este edifício é um dos marcos mais importantes da cidade. A sua fachada barroca é impressionante, com torres altas e decorações elegantes que refletem a história e a importância da cidade.

Em frente à Câmara Municipal, fiquei impressionado com a sua grandiosidade. Não é apenas um edifício administrativo, mas também uma obra de arte que representa o passado de Alicante.

Aproveitámos para admirar os detalhes da fachada, as estátuas e o design geral. Muitas pessoas estavam sentadas nas proximidades, apreciando a atmosfera da praça. Parecia um lugar onde a história, a política e a vida quotidiana se encontram.

After a full day of walking, exploring, and discovering Alicante, it was time to head back. We made our way to the TRAM station, ready for the 25-minute ride back to our accommodation. Just like in the morning, the TRAM was comfortable and efficient. This time, the train was a bit busier with people returning from work or leisure, but it still felt calm.

Looking out the window as the TRAM moved along, I reflected on how much we had discovered in just one day. Alicante is a city that offers history, architecture, culture, and seaside relaxation, all within walking distance. It is rare to find a place where you can admire grand architecture in the morning, enjoy a park by midday, and dip your toes in the Mediterranean in the afternoon.

Depois de um dia inteiro a caminhar, a explorar e a descobrir Alicante, estava na hora de regressar. Fomos até à estação do TRAM, prontos para a viagem de 25 minutos de regresso ao nosso alojamento. Tal como de manhã, o TRAM era confortável e eficiente. Desta vez, o comboio estava um pouco mais movimentado, com pessoas a regressar do trabalho ou do lazer, mas ainda assim parecia tranquilo.

Olhando pela janela enquanto o TRAM passava, refleti sobre o quanto tínhamos descoberto em apenas um dia. Alicante é uma cidade que oferece história, arquitetura, cultura e relaxamento à beira-mar, tudo a uma curta distância a pé. É raro encontrar um lugar onde se possa admirar a grandiosa arquitetura de manhã, desfrutar de um parque ao meio-dia e mergulhar os pés no Mediterrâneo à tarde.

This day in Alicante reminded me of the beauty of slow travel. We didn’t rush to see everything. Instead, we took our time, walked through the streets, paused to enjoy views, and allowed ourselves to experience the city at our own pace.

Este dia em Alicante fez-me lembrar a beleza de viajar devagar. Não nos apressamos a ver tudo. Em vez disso, aproveitamos o nosso tempo, caminhamos pelas ruas, paramos para apreciar a vista e permitimo-nos experienciar a cidade ao nosso próprio ritmo.
