Hi everyone! Today I take you to Platja de Llevant, the long city beach of Valencia that many people know as Malva-rosa. We woke up early to catch the sunrise and then walked from the sand all the way to the marina, along the seafront. At that hour everything is calm, golden and almost empty. Come with us!

Ol谩 a todos! Hoje levo-vos 脿 Platja de Llevant, a longa praia da cidade de Val锚ncia que muita gente conhece como Malva-rosa. Acord谩mos cedo para apanhar o nascer do sol e depois caminh谩mos desde a areia at茅 脿 marina, ao longo da frente mar铆tima. A essa hora tudo est谩 calmo, dourado e quase vazio. Venham connosco!
We started the morning on the sand, with the sky slowly turning blue and almost nobody around. On the left you can see one of the numbered lifeguard huts, and on the right the palm trees that line the promenade. The curved marks on the sand look like early cleaning work.

Come莽谩mos a manh茫 na areia, com o c茅u a ficar lentamente azul e quase ningu茅m por perto. 脌 esquerda v锚-se um dos postos numerados dos nadadores-salvadores e 脿 direita as palmeiras que ladeiam o passeio. As marcas curvas na areia parecem resultar da limpeza feita de manh茫 cedo.
Then we went up to the promenade, which is huge, flat and paved with a geometric pattern. A few runners were already out training. In the distance you can see the cranes of the port of Valencia, one of the busiest ports in the Mediterranean, next to the beach.

Depois subimos ao passeio mar铆timo, que 茅 enorme, plano e pavimentado com um padr茫o geom茅trico. Alguns corredores j谩 estavam a treinar. Ao longe veem-se os guindastes do porto de Val锚ncia, um dos mais movimentados do Mediterr芒neo, mesmo ao lado da praia.
Back on the sand, the sun was rising over the sea behind a small cloud. The light was soft and orange, and the beach looked like a dark golden carpet.

De volta 脿 areia, o sol nascia sobre o mar por tr谩s de uma pequena nuvem. A luz era suave e alaranjada e a praia parecia um tapete dourado escuro.
Looking along the beach you can understand how long it is. The row of palm trees follows the sand until it disappears into the haze. The only company at this hour was a seagull standing on the left, probably waiting for breakfast like us.

Ao olhar ao longo da praia percebe-se o seu comprimento. A fila de palmeiras acompanha a areia at茅 se perder na neblina. A 煤nica companhia a esta hora era uma gaivota parada 脿 esquerda, provavelmente 脿 espera do pequeno-almo莽o, tal como n贸s.
This is the part of the promenade that I liked the most. Tall palm trees on one side, the beach wall on the other, and a long straight line that seems to go on forever.

Esta 茅 a parte do passeio de que mais gostei. Palmeiras altas de um lado, o muro da praia do outro e uma longa linha reta que parece n茫o ter fim.
Here is another view of that huge expanse of sand. The beach is very wide, which is one of the reasons Valencians love it. Even in summer there is space for everyone, and in the early morning it feels like having a private beach.

Aqui est谩 outra vista daquela enorme extens茫o de areia. A praia 茅 muito larga, e esse 茅 um dos motivos pelos quais os valencianos a adoram. Mesmo no ver茫o h谩 espa莽o para todos e, de manh茫 cedo, parece que temos uma praia privada.
Further along, the promenade opens into a wide square. On the right there are elegant buildings with columns and cream coloured walls, a reminder of the seaside architecture from the time when Valencians began to spend their holidays by the sea.

Mais 脿 frente, o passeio abre-se numa pra莽a ampla. 脌 direita h谩 edif铆cios elegantes com colunas e paredes cor de creme, uma lembran莽a da arquitetura 脿 beira-mar do tempo em que os valencianos come莽aram a passar as f茅rias junto ao mar.
We kept walking towards the marina. In the middle of the promenade, two giant flagpoles rise above the palm trees. The street lamps, benches and low hedges make this a very pleasant place for a quiet stroll in the morning.

Continu谩mos a caminhar em dire莽茫o 脿 marina. No meio do passeio, dois mastros gigantes erguem-se acima das palmeiras. Os candeeiros, os bancos e as sebes baixas fazem deste um local muito agrad谩vel para um passeio tranquilo de manh茫.
Getting closer to the flags, you can see the Spanish flag on the leaning pole. On the right, a hotel shows its name between the palm trees. The beach stays on the left, and the sand is still empty and perfectly smooth.

脌 medida que nos aproxim谩vamos das bandeiras, via-se a bandeira de Espanha no mastro inclinado. 脌 direita, um hotel mostra o seu nome entre as palmeiras. A praia fica 脿 esquerda e a areia continua vazia e perfeitamente lisa.
One more sunrise picture, because I could not resist. The sun is low over the horizon, the lifeguard hut on the right is still closed, and the sea is almost invisible in the golden light. A peaceful moment before the beach wakes up.

Mais uma fotografia do nascer do sol, porque n茫o consegui resistir. O sol est谩 baixo no horizonte, o posto de salvamento 脿 direita ainda est谩 fechado e o mar quase n茫o se v锚 na luz dourada. Um momento de paz antes de a praia acordar.
At the end of the beach we found one of the landmarks of modern Valencia: the Veles e Vents building. It was designed by the architect David Chipperfield for the America's Cup of 2007, and its stacked white terraces look like a ship.

No fim da praia encontr谩mos um dos marcos da Val锚ncia moderna: o edif铆cio Veles e Vents. Foi desenhado pelo arquiteto David Chipperfield para a America's Cup de 2007 e os seus terra莽os brancos sobrepostos parecem um navio.
Next to the building is the marina, and at that hour the light was magical. The sun was low, the boats were quiet in the water and the old stone wall created beautiful lines. Perfect for photographs.

Ao lado do edif铆cio fica a marina e, a essa hora, a luz era m谩gica. O sol estava baixo, os barcos repousavam na 谩gua e o antigo muro de pedra criava belas linhas. Perfeito para fotografias e totalmente livre de multid玫es.
Here you can see the sailing boats lined up along the quay, with the Veles e Vents building on the right. The water was so calm that the masts were reflected on the surface. This marina is a favourite for sailors and walkers.

Aqui v锚em-se os veleiros alinhados ao longo do cais, com o edif铆cio Veles e Vents 脿 direita. A 谩gua estava t茫o calma que os mastros se refletiam na superf铆cie. Esta marina 茅 uma favorita de velejadores e caminhantes.
On the way back we crossed a small garden with tall palm trees. Between them you can see the Hotel Neptuno, a modern white building close to the beach. In the right corner, there are solar panels shaped like a blue tree.

No regresso atravess谩mos um pequeno jardim com palmeiras altas. Entre elas v锚-se o Hotel Neptuno, um edif铆cio moderno e branco perto da praia. No canto direito h谩 pain茅is solares com a forma de uma 谩rvore azul.
From the terrace of Veles e Vents you get a nice view of the city and the old port buildings. The structure has large open platforms where you can walk, and the white concrete looks bright against the morning blue sky.

Do terra莽o do Veles e Vents tem-se uma bela vista da cidade e dos edif铆cios do antigo porto. A estrutura tem grandes plataformas abertas onde se pode caminhar e o bet茫o branco brilha contra o c茅u azul da manh茫.
This view shows the other side of the marina. The calm water, the boats and the port cranes in the background form a very Valencian image: leisure and trade living side by side, as they have for centuries in this port city.

Esta vista mostra o outro lado da marina. A 谩gua calma, os barcos e os guindastes do porto ao fundo formam uma imagem muito valenciana: lazer e com茅rcio lado a lado, como acontece h谩 s茅culos nesta cidade portu谩ria.
The sun kept climbing, and the marina turned even more golden. I love the silhouettes of the masts against the sky. At the end of the promenade there is a stage prepared for events, which shows how lively this area becomes.

O sol continuava a subir e a marina ficou ainda mais dourada. Adoro as silhuetas dos mastros contra o c茅u. No fim do passeio h谩 um palco preparado para eventos, o que mostra como esta zona fica animada.
Back among the palm trees, we saw the hotel again, now with a flag waving at the top right corner. The garden is peaceful, with walking paths and cycle lanes. Valencia is a very bike friendly city, and you feel it here.

De volta entre as palmeiras, volt谩mos a ver o hotel, agora com uma bandeira a ondular no canto superior direito. O jardim 茅 tranquilo, com caminhos pedonais e ciclovias. Val锚ncia 茅 uma cidade muito amiga das bicicletas e sente-se isso aqui.
A last look at Veles e Vents, this time with the staircase leading up to the terraces. Notice the white planters with plants along the edge. The building has restaurants and spaces open to the public, so it is worth coming in.

Um 煤ltimo olhar ao Veles e Vents, desta vez com a escadaria que leva aos terra莽os. Reparem nos vasos brancos com plantas ao longo do bordo. O edif铆cio tem restaurantes e espa莽os abertos ao p煤blico, por isso vale a pena entrar.
The warm light made the masts and ropes look like drawings. On the left there is a stage structure, and behind it a curved white bridge. We stood here for a few minutes enjoying the silence, with only the sound of the halyards.

A luz quente fazia os mastros e as cordas parecerem desenhos. 脌 esquerda h谩 uma estrutura de palco e, atr谩s, uma ponte branca curva. Fic谩mos aqui alguns minutos a desfrutar do sil锚ncio, apenas com o som das adri莽as.
These giant flagpoles are impossible to miss. One carries the flag of Spain and the other the Valencian flag, and both look a bit worn by the sea wind. A cyclist rides past on the right, enjoying the empty square.

Estes mastros gigantes s茫o imposs铆veis de n茫o ver. Um tem a bandeira de Espanha e o outro a bandeira valenciana, e ambas parecem um pouco gastas pelo vento do mar. Um ciclista passa 脿 direita, a aproveitar a pra莽a vazia.
We ended with one more look at the Hotel Neptuno between three palm trees. The solar tree is visible on the right. It is a simple but charming scene, and a perfect way to close this early morning walk by the sea.

This early morning at Platja de Llevant, was a perfect start to our day in Valencia. Empty sand, golden light, boats and palm trees, all for ourselves.
