"piiiiiii"
"¿Qué es esto?" Me agacho. "¿Una planta rodante con patas y pico?" La toco con un dedo.
"piii"
La vuelvo a tocar
"Piii"
Estaba preocupada.
—Un pollo rodante me tenía atrapado. ¿Dónde se fue?. Miro a mi alrededor todavía asustado.
ENGLISH
Greetings friends of Hive. This is my participation in the Hispaliterario 21 Challenge based on a work of art by the surrealist painter @romanie.
The rolling chicken
I walk through the dry and arid land, full of cardonales and cujies that I cross every morning at dawn and every afternoon when the sun paints the cloudless sky with colors.
Life is a monotony of daily events. I wake up early in the morning, have breakfast of a peeled arepa with cream and black coffee, while I look at my wife's sleepy face and her yellow flowered robe badly buttoned due to the rush to get out of bed, after a night where I had a concert of snoring.
I give her a kiss on the forehead, grab my jacket, my hat and my lunch stored in a container and I go to the salt flats to work under an inclement sun, and after 8 hours I return to the house where I came from, full of salt and sun.
I walk crestfallen and I distract myself by hitting with the toe of my shoe the tumbleweeds that the wind blows here and there. As a child I liked to run after them. I find one and hit it.
piiiiiiiii
"What's this?" I crouch down. "A tumbleweed with legs and a beak?" I touch it with a finger.
"piii"
I touch it again
"Piii"
I try to grab it with my hand and it grabs my finger with its beak, I shake it off, but it won't let go. With the other hand I try to take it off, but she rolls it up with the tail feathers and I am immobilized with both hands. I scream in desperation
" Let go of me, rolling chicken", as I force my arms apart.
But his body stretches like an accordion.
Drops of sweat run down my forehead and into my eyes. They sting and I can't open them. I raise my arms and wipe it off with the chicken feathers.
"Piii"
"Let go of me or I'll smash you against !I don't want to kill you, but I will if I have to".
It was a very bad idea to warn him. He looked at me with his eyelashless yellow eyes and with a nimble swing he positioned himself behind my neck pinning me down. My head is down and my hands are tied, a very uncomfortable position.
I drop to the ground and roll across the sand and through the vegetation trying to shake it off, but only tear my clothes and skin.
"This ball is a pest and now what do I do?. I know, I'll wait for it to get tired and let go of me."
The sky is getting darker and shadows are covering the dunes.
I am hungry and thirsty. I look at the chicken and its eyes are closed. Is it possible that it is sleeping? I try to move my hands
"Piii"
Its feathers on my neck are making me itchy. I'm tired, I want to get home and eat my peeled arepa with cheese and fish with my cafecito con leche, sit on the patio and pet my dog Luna, look at the stars in the sky and then go to sleep cuddled up to my wife. The everyday has become wonderful and I miss it already.
"Julian, Julian, wake up".
I open my eyes and look at my wife, with her yellow flowered robe and a flashlight shining in her hand. Luna licks my face.
"What are you doing sleeping here? I was worried".
"I was worried. Let me see," she comes up to me and sniffs my mouth.
"Get up Julian!"
As he helps me with his arm he mumbles.
" I think so much sun hurt you. You must have sunstroke and you're seeing mirages. Who would have thought that there is a rolling chicken, only you Julian".
The chicken has camouflaged itself, its body is rolled up, legs and beak hidden in the plumage.
Luna approaches it and its snout is sniffing very close to its beak. The feathers begin a slow spiraling motion.
"piii"
"Come on Luna!"
The dog stops and runs to catch up with Julian and his wife as they cross the yellow dunes under a starry sky.
