Relato El Cabrito estrellado.jpg

The goat rests on the dry straw in the paddock. Meanwhile the billy goat, pacing back and forth, nervous, barely eats and with his pointed horns beats the wood that squeaks.

The sheep watch curiously and whisper to each other. Their stubby, woolly bodies have become soiled with mud and they scrub to clean it off.

The night is very clear and the stars twinkle in infinite space. A cool breeze stirs the leaves on the trees and the chirping of crickets can be heard among the reeds.

In the house the children are waiting to see if the goat has given birth, they are excited and eat in a hurry to get out of the house and reach the paddock. Their father has gone ahead of them and walks hurriedly, takes his flashlight and puts on his hat. The playful breeze tries to take it off, while he holds it with one hand and runs along the path that the marigolds, with their rays of light, offer him.

When the children arrive, they peek between the fence posts, in the darkness they cannot see what is happening, while the billy goat watches them and with his huge horns tries to drive them away from the paddock.

-What's wrong daddy? -asks the youngest, I can't see.

-Calm down son, the goat is already giving birth, let's be quiet.

She calmly tries to push out of her womb the kid that is already being born. A crystalline sheath covers its body. The kid tries to free itself while the goat licks it and helps it out of its mother's placenta.

How beautiful it is! the children shout when they get to see it and the father laughs understandingly and happily at the same time.

The kid has already stood up, it is black with a star spot on its forehead and its white legs are trembling, when it approaches its mother to drink the first sweet milk, that is its right and no one will dare to take it away from the whiteness that comes from the udder.

The sheep, the crickets, the birds and even the dog of the house, to the stable have come to look at the newborn, who with his black and sweet eyes looks at them in amazement.

Shy and a little scared he approaches his mother, who lovingly, between her paws protects him and looks towards the moon that suddenly has approached, to see the birth of the cute starry kid.
