Winterthur is a city located only about 30 minutes drive from our place. There used to be a huge festival each year in summer which we frequently visited. This is how we got to know the city. We don't have any friends there, but we still like to come from time to time as they have a restaurant with the most delicious food.

Last weekend, we didn't want to go to the garden as we were tired from the day before, but we didn't have any plans, so we decided to go to Winterthur and see what is going on in the city. I must say that we didn't choose the most convenient time as it turned out that there was a demonstration and a protest against this demonstration, so the city was full of police officers and strange people 馃檪 But it didn't stop us from having a nice walk in the old town.

Winterthur is part of the canton of Zurich and you can see it on the architecture. The houses are very similar to Zurich and quite different from Schaffhausen where we live, even though these two cantons are neighbours.

There must be a fountain in every single village in Switzerland. It wouldn't be a Swiss city if there wouldn't be plenty of them. And it's not just a fountain, but there is always some statue attached to it. I liked this one in particular as it is surrounded by colourful houses and it looks somehow idyllic.

We continued our walk towards a hipster neighbourhood that we didn't know existed 馃檪

3.jpg

We passed by the cutest little house. I can imagine that there is only one room downstairs and another room upstairs. It was decorated with many flower pots and green shutters which matched the colour of the house perfectly.

Here we can see it from another perspective. It is so narrow!

5.jpg

And then we entered a street with various workshops and local products. I have noticed that there is a place which offers ceramics courses and I have already submitted my application! I'm so excited 馃檪

6.jpg

I loved that there are many big pots with trees and bushes around the old town. It's a great way to keep the city green.

7.jpg

And it's also an opportunity for great photos 馃檪

This house somehow doesn't fit in there. It had a completely different style and it reminds me more of Graubunden than Zurich.

9.jpg

They have some interesting decorations in the old town...

10.jpg

We also visited the main square which is basically a street lined with trees and many bars and restaurants on both sides of the street. In between the trees there are tables and benches and it all creates nice atmosphere.

11.jpg

Here are some places that we could find there...

12.jpg

13.jpg

On the left side is the restaurant that I mentioned before, but it wasn't the time to eat yet, so we continued our walk...

14.jpg

There are almost as many bicycles on the streets as in Holland 馃檪

15.jpg

Apartment buildings can also look like this...

16.jpg

And schools can be as pretty as this...

17.jpg

18.jpg

On the way we came across some nice family houses...

19.jpg

As well as interesting artworks...

20.jpg

A few parks...

21.jpg

And statues... Somebody put blossom in her hand 馃檪

22.jpg

We started to walk towards the restaurant and this is where we came across that protest. Luckily, it was already finished but the special forces were still there.

23.jpg

I think that they waited until all people left the location...

24.jpg

And then we finally arrived in the restaurant. It is a buffet style restaurant, but believe me when I tell you that they truly have the best food in town. We enjoyed it a lot!

We had a great day in Winterthur. Especially my husband, who was really excited to see the special forces 馃檪

See you next time...
