馃 Happy new year! This is Semaphore Lakes in British Columbia by tristan.todd@tristan.todd

For the past two summers, my friend and I have hiked up to these lakes to camp. The trailhead is located north of Pemberton, Canada and is one of the easiest backpacking trips in the area, especially when you consider the rewards! However, you should always be prepared: bring all the essentials, bring bear spray, don't leave food laying around and make lots of noise while hiking. This is grizzly territory.

馃 The Anti Mountain of Melanesia by riverflows@riverflows

Every two years, we walk down to Melanesia Beach on the Great Ocean Road. It has to be perfect weather - not too hot, and not too wet, as the track would be impassable and impossible. The walk down is magnificent, boasting extraordinary views along a semi shaded track of gums and ferns and scrub. Some years we spot echidnas, and the bush resounds with bird life. I've been walking down this particular access track since 1990 when my best mate's Dad dragged us down the track. Sometimes it breaks well there and the old school surfers would traipse down to find the big waves.

馃 Sword Lake - The Cultural and Historical Convergence of Hanoi Capital by dodovietnam@dodovietnam

Hi guys, how are you today? I hope you have a wonderful first day of the year. In the tumultuous old year 2021, I didn't fulfill many of my plans. But I hope that 2022 will be a better year for all of us. And one of my plans for the new year is travel. To start with that, I will introduce you to one of my favorite places, which is Sword Lake (Hoan Kiem Lake), in the capital Hanoi. It has such a name because according to legend, once King Le Loi was sailing on this lake, suddenly a golden tortoise floated to the surface demanding the king return the sword lent by the Dragon King to drive away the Ming invaders. The king immediately returned the sword to the tortoise and the turtle disappeared into the water.
