My family I think was a very calm and an interesting one, far from being dramatic and that’s attributed to dads and mum’s disposition. Well, growing up, I was kinda dad’s favorite. Earlier as a kid it was obvious as I ate with him and mum while my other siblings ate together but I guess in a bid to bring about balance, I had to start eating with my siblings over time.
Earlier as a kid I always heard dad make good remarks about my academic performances in school which obviously became a statement every term. Earlier in my nursery school days, I didn’t take cognizance of my academic performance maybe because I was too small to really know whether I did well in school or not. Well, as I got older, I began to notice in my primary school days that I did well actually in my early primary school days and before I knew it, I was topping the academic chart in my class.
Well, dad was super proud of me as a very good father who is putting in effort to train the child through school should be and I would remember vividly in those early childhood days that I was always enthusiastic to give my school report card to daddy. Well, between dad and mum, dad was the more educated one. Whenever he goes through my school work he would always say “Bravo, you took after me and I knew you would make me proud”. Mum will just smile and shake her head.
Mum was intelligent too but I guess she wast in for the argument on whom took after whom because there was obviously a striking resemblance between dad and I. Infact anyone who looked at me knew they were seeing dad. From the skin completion to the shape of my mouth and the way I behave been an introvert.
Dad rarely spoke and he always seem to be taciturn and I find myself like that too. Well, we are quiet but brainy and we can’t help but relax and feel free with whom ever we are comfortable around.
Well, back to that statement. We all want to be praised and feel welcomed at home especially when we do well in school. So that singular statement dad tells me whenever I do well in school had tremendous impact on me. It made me want to always do well because I want to impress dad. My secondary school days had a rare practice of giving us a certificate for the first to third position in all the subjects along side our report card.
I would gladly collect all my certificates of different colors and can’t wait to give all of them to dad because I was expecting that grand statement. “Bravo, you took after me and I know you will make me proud”! I was happy that I could make dad proud. I loved the fact that he appreciated the effort I put into my academics and it made me push myself in school and I wanted to get it all done well. Mum too wasn’t left out at all but dad’s iconic phrase did the magic. I always took the first positions in the class. My certificates weren’t the only motivation I had for not given up in difficult times. That praise and iconic statement was enough push. I always smiled home cos I know that dad is proud of me.

Bueno, volviendo a esa afirmaciĂłn.
Me alegraba poder hacer sentir orgulloso a papá.
