天地有萬古 此身不再得 人生只百年 此日最易過 幸生其間者 不可不知有生之樂 不可不懷虛生之憂 (前 107)

The world has existed since time immemorial, but this body cannot be regained after death. Life stands at most 100 years, but this day passes easily. Fortunately as born between this interval, one should not be ignorant of the joys of life, nor should be concerned about the life of emptiness. (Book1 107)

People only get used to choosing the extremes of hedonism and asceticism so they don't know how to reconcile between them. Just as the beautiful melody of a string instrument doesn't require to be just tight, it doesn't require to be loose.
