Hello friends in hive/ecency! I'd like to share with you guys on how I spent my last Saturday night. I went to this place called Nest13 bar and lounge in Megah Rise Mall Petaling Jaya.
As a Borneoan living in West Malaysia I always feeling homesick during this time of year... So a friend of mine kindly invited me to go to this place for an advance Gawai and Kaamatan celebration; a harvest festival for us native East Malaysians, that falls on the 30th and 31st May for Kaamatan and 1st and 2nd June for Gawai on every year.
I had a great time and took some photos with the ethnic dancers after we had a shot of aie pengayu which is another name for tuak/rice wine, and cheering ooohaaaa like how Borneoan people do.
Finally after years, I've managed to get my hands on a traditional Sarawakian delicacy which is the prawn umai... Yummy... Now this is the taste of my hometown... Soury, spicy, and umami... 馃い
The prawn umai is in that round shaped container, have to point it out cuz of blurriness it was so yummy that I literally would die happy that night
I also managed to dance with the dancers three times because I sat literally just right in front of the dance floor and they can't help but to pick me. Sorry guys, at this point no videos cuz my phone died 馃槄 and so grateful for that cuz if I talk about talent, dancing is not one of them 馃ぃ But to make it up for that, I'll show you some pictures that I managed to take before my phone went kong.
Loved the beautiful traditional costumes and how graceful were the dancers, can't help but in awe. I also quite enjoyed the music choices of the night, most of them are from Borneo local singers - Original Sabahan, Sumandak Sabah, Bekikis bulu betis, Gawai Ons and etc... songs that made you feel like you want to conquer the dance floor kinda beat, hehe 馃き
My favourite was the finale dance which is the bamboo dance, that I didn't manage to capture some videos due to my dead phone. But don't worry, I heard there will be a closing ceremony for Gawai and Kaamatan soon in July, I'll be sure to get more pictures and share it here for you guys!
