Hi Steemians,
Today I'm want to share about my culinary adventure in Jakarta. Its my home town and Jakarta has some really great food option, Jakartans love to shop, and they love to eat out, so there is a thriving culture of restaurants and street food here
Today it's the Mongolian shabu-shabu or people call it hot pot or steam boat.
The restaurant name is Little Sheep, located in Jakarta, Indonesia. There are 3 outlets in Jakarta, and I've tried every single one of them as I really love it. I wanted to find out which place had the better venue, service and location and so far i can't decide, they are all great.
Now, this is Chinese food, but I bet it's like no other Chinese food you've ever eaten. There are many styles of cuisine coming from China and you've probably eaten the southern Chinese Cantonese style, or the Northern Beijing style, or the spicy Szechuan because these are already better known around the world
But this is very different. It's like a fusion of elements of Chinese cooking with the Turkic influence of Western China, with ingredients like Lamb, Tahini, Cilantro and crispy pancake served alongside the steamboat.
I found this place from a friend of mine. She took me here and once I tried it's blown me away. Can't believe how fresh the ingredients served in this restaurant are.
It offers a large menu, but the one that always interests me most is the hot pot or shabu-shabu. You can choose which you like the most, as a buffet or ala carte.
If you choose buffet it cost s you Rp. 198.000/ pax, with minimum 2 pax. That's USD $14.83 in today's exchange
Thats for two hours and all you can eat. Just keep topping up more meat, vegetable and other ingredients and it's all included in the price. The only rule is that you should finish what you order, a reasonable request to prevent waste.
There are two broths to choose from for the hotpot, the original non spicy and the spicy type. The outstanding broth for me is the spicy one. But you can ask for half and half (original and spicy)
And It has quite interesting spices to go along with the hot pot.
Our favourite condiments are the Tahini and chumajiang, fresh garlic and fresh cilantro
The scallion pancake or Cong You Bing is a must to order, match it with the tahini sauce and fresh cilantro. This is really a tasty fusion of the Chinese and Turkic influence
For the meat I usually order the beef striploin and lamb shoulder.
They will serve you with salted peanuts as the welcoming snack.
Well, that's it. I do hope you enjoy my writing and yes if you find this restaurant while visiting Jakarta - you must try it! It's highly recommended ;)
Thankyou!!
