Early Morning, Fear, and Aftershocks

I woke up in the early morning from a nightmare that still left my body trembling. I dreamt of a brutal earthquake, the house collapsing with me inside, and a darkness so heavy that the anguish felt almost real.

The Nightmare

In the dream, I was trapped under the rubble, unable to get out, unable to see anything, and with that horrible feeling that time was running out. The agony was so intense that, when I opened my eyes, it took me a few seconds to realize I was awake.

After that, I slept in fits and starts, like someone who can barely close their eyes without ever truly resting. At dawn, I got up to cook, trying to wrest some semblance of normalcy from the morning, but then I heard on the news that there had been another aftershock of just over magnitude 4, exactly the kind you'd feel inside your home.

What Remained in My Mind

I think my body felt the earthquake while I slept, and then my mind did its thing: turning that jolt into fear. Since that horrific #earthquake on June 24th in Venezuela, something has remained buried inside, even if one tries to appear calm on the outside.

The image of my neighbor's house completely collapsed keeps haunting me. They survived and weren't injured because, by chance, they were gathered in the front yard when the earthquake struck; the house was empty at that moment, and that probably saved their lives.

Between Dream and Reality

That's why I feel this #nightmare wasn't just any bad dream. Perhaps it was the reflection of a fear that lingered in my mind after the disaster, even though I don't show it much.

And yes, it sounds strange to say it like this, but sometimes the body speaks before we do. Sometimes the alarm is still going off even when there's no more noise outside.

What I Wish For Now

I truly wish that the aftershocks subside a bit, that every bit of rubble can be safely removed, and that anyone still trapped can be rescued. I also wish that a serious reconstruction begins soon, one that not only rebuilds walls but also creates jobs and restores a glimmer of hope.

I hope that from all of this, a rebirth of hope will also emerge, because sometimes a community doesn't just need cement: it needs to believe again.

What I Need to Do

I, too, want to overcome this almost subconscious #fear that remains. If it continues to weigh too heavily on me, I know I'll have to seek professional help to work through it calmly and without shame.

In the meantime, I'm holding onto a simple idea: breathe, take care of my loved ones, and keep going, even if it's slowly. Today I woke up scared, yes, but also more aware that healing on the inside also takes time.

Madrugada, miedo y r茅plicas
